Default sti exhaust on an RS

i think the answer is yes, but i just wanna double check before i go and spend money on one.....will an 04 or an 05 STI stock exhaust fit on a 2001 RS? I have seen people mention it so i would assume that it is the diameter that i am looking for at 2.25 inches. Is there any customization that would have to be done to fit one on?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

It will not fit without some welding that needs to be done on the midpipe. The WRX and STi exhausts are signigicantly longer than that of the RS's so you would need to have a shop reweld the exhaust to fit. It would be more cost effecient to buy a used catback exhaust designed specifically for the RS.

Shoulda done a search.

i have a 04 sti axle-back on a modified wrx midpipe on my 03 OBS... sounds better and performs better (butt dyno) than the wrx axle-back.

i know for a fact, that, an sti axle-back will mate (direct fit) to a wrx mid-pipe... not exactly the questions you asked, but it's what i know.

btw, as i understand it (lots of call/visits to exhust shops), the OD (not ID) of the sti axle-back is 2.5, so figure just a bit over 2.25 (a 2.25 OD pipe is useually [in my experiance] 2.12 ID)

assuming pipe thinkness is similar you're looking at ~2.37 ID on a sti axle-back.

i can tell you the sti muffler needs its flange cut off and repositioned or some carefull drilling to fit it on a 98rs's stock exhaust... but it does fit

I have one on my 02RS. I also had a wrx midpipe modified to fit my car, and a borla header.

http://www.wsu.edu/~johnson/MVI_1144.AVI vid of start up and idle and a little reving. Don't mind the condensation. Sounds TONS better than the WRX muffler. When I started it up after bolting it up, my buddy and I were like whoa ****
