ok. if you go to boxer4racing.com there is a hydra ems there from the 98+ 2.2L and 2.5L engines. i contacted on of the dealers and they said that i send them my ecu box and they replace the processor and send it back to me and my harness will plug right in. it even takes away the maf sensor and replaces it with a map sensor,.

just find a thread he commented in and pm or email him. Just click on his name and it gives you a choice. I have a hydra for my 2.5RS. It's a little more difficult to get running well because there aren't as many of us as wrx people. But I still like it and it's worth the trouble.

i also have it... and it is a good system.... it IS available for plug-n-play for the gc8's

i agree its a little harder to use with the older ones because theres just not enough of us to help... but the things this thing is capable of are amazing..

I like the Hydra a lot. It's a stand alone, and that means tuning more that fuel and spark in open loop. So, it's has more, but also more to tune.

The number of tools available for feedback while tuning is unparalleled. For a NA engine, I'd say the resolution of the maps is overkill. I'd really only consider going the the Hydra if you are planning forced induction, then you'll have all the load sites you'll ever need.

Gain's will depend mostly on your parts collection, not your EM. You won't squeeze anymore power out of you engine with the Hydra than any other well tuned EM. Power is about air and fuel getting together in the right combination. EM helps you make adjustments to derive more power, but it does not make any power. You will however be able to tune nearly every aspect of the powertrain and make compensations for almost any environmental condition.

The Hydra is not beyond a noobie, but it does require some commitment to learn. If you do buy a Hydra, you'll be spoiled for life, because there's just not much out there that measures up to it (at least that want to buy $$$).
