Default Baja Headers

Hi all,

Okay, next on the list is headers. But, what should I get? I am interested in getting the best low end improvements I can since I don't travel much over 4K rpms. Also, I want a set of headers that fits up as high and tight as possible in order to preserve ground clearence.

Does anyone have any input on this?

Thanks,

Perry

Default Borla

I'm running Borla Ceramic Coated...I can't really say how much power I got with them cause I did various mods at the same time. But these look and sound great.

hmmm. On my NA EJ25 impreza I had an increase in low end torque. I did Borla headers at the same time as the rest of the exhaust so i never ran the Borlas with a stock system. I did switch back to stock headers and I definatly had a loss of low end torque.

FYI- Ive broken 2 sets of Borlas, so far they have replaced them free of charge, But I am sick of taking them off, sending them back, waiting for the new pair, re-installing them (takes 2 weeks for the whole process). Ive also had the tiny cracks re-welded at least 5 times in between complete header failures where I had to send them back. I personally am done with them, I loved the sound, very small performance increase but not worth the hassle to me.

Hey perry,
So here's the thing; You would probably be really happy with twe cobb, and let's throw invidia equal lenth headers in there too. All great, I've seen dynos for both Cobb and TWE that show increases at low rpm. But they hang down LOWER by more than 1.5 inches than stock (some estamate more than 2 inches).

Take a close look at some of the front end pics of the lifted baja that I posted, I'm pretty sure you can see the headers... Those are borla, and they even hang about an inch (which is one reason why I have to fabricate a skidplate rather than buying off the shelf). the only reason I got borla was because they hung down the least by a lot, and they were so cheap ($222.43) .

Here's the other thing; unless you buy a chip, like perfectpower, you will likely only notice minimal or no gains either way because your air/fuel mixture will be off.

For the about the same price as equal lenth headers, you could probably get (I got) borla headers, cat back, and chip (total cost $942). I've been pretty happy with the performance gains with that set up.

Jamba,

Don't you mean to say the Borlas DIDN'T hang down as much?

The Cobbs look like thay might fit up tight, but I have no way of knowing.

I like the advice on headers, chip and cat-back. That is the way I was going to go, so, the headers are next. The bank won't let me do it all at once, but I must say that the price you quoted is not bad at all. I would have guessed much higher. The Rallitek folk must have made you an offer you could not refuse. ;-)

Borlas DO hang down further than the stock exhaust manifold. But possibley not as far as the equal length offered by Cobb or TWE.

Hawk is right. sorry, I could have explained better

I was supprised at how low the Borlas did hang since they were suppose to be closest to stock. I think most E.L. headers have about the same dimentions (there's really not too may ways to make them equal length), so regardless of the brand, I would plan on loosing about 2 inches... plus you will probably want to get a skidplate to cover that $1000 investment (you can get one for about $150, definately worth it!! Or you could have one made for about $70- I'll send you the specs if you want)
