Default Cost of having a turbo back exhaust installed

I'm looking to potentially buy a turbo back exhaust (haven't decided on the ScoobySport or MRT yet) on my WRX, and I'm wondering if anyone else has paid/hired someone to do this kind of install for them. I'm up to doing most other mods, but really don't have the time for this one. Also, any recommended places?

Thanks

I installed mine myself. It only took 3hours with jackstands and hand tools. Not too bad. I heard another guy got his put in for about $100. It might not be such a bad idea. I would try a muffler shop, they could probably do it.

I would recommend that you go to the guys who know the car the best, the technicians. Plus you can get MRT through them! I can even recommend a very good technician who has done several of these, but I don't know how much they charge.

Default Do it Yourself

Unless you are completely mechanically ignorant, do this yourself. There is nothing under that car you cant get to with some jackstands and a good set of metric tools.

Exhaust should take you less than 2 hours turbo back. Just say no to $75/hour at a technicians place!

John, some people would like to have a PRO do the work to ensure that it is done correctly and done right, this doesent make them "ignorant" as you would call them, just smart..

There is something to be said for doing the job yourself, the thrill of breaking off a siezed turbo stud then having to drill then easy out it then repairing the threads then installing the new stud

Stripping out bolts and having to try to figure out what to do next to repair the threads

Paying a local tech to do the work that has 20+ years is worth the price paid in knowing the job is done right, the install was proper and if the install goes south and things strip or break the repair is done properly

not to mention if something goes wrong they have business insurance to back them up in case of a real problem heaven forbid

I agree with suby sports - doing a turbo back isn't like doing a catback.

Braden is speaking the truth! Plus, it's always a treat for us technicians to have to go back in and repair customer mistakes-sometimes very costly

Seems the Tech's are willing to say why you should have a Pro do the job, but no one's steped up to to the question. Part of why people sometimes stretch to do the work themselves is because they can't get anyone commit to cost or straight answers.

People willing to pay should expect better information and answers. I do.

Sorry rwroth, I don't have an answer for you, but I be getting to the same question later this summer. Good luck!

Well - I decided to wait awhile on the full turbo-back exhaust. Thanks for the advice.

Suby Sports installs MRT turbo cat backs for 120.00$, + parts and tax if needed, and since it is a relativly universal type exhaust install I can't imagine another brand costing any more...
