Default need help carb problems 87 gl idles at 2000 rpms

i know this is a impreza site but im a subie enthusiest and i just bought a 87 gl wagon for $500 dollars which im planning on making a sleeper out of after i get out of school but for now im goin to use it because my rs is killing me on gas. it around 2.45 for premium her in wyoming. the problem i have is that it is carburated and im stupid on suby carbs and not that much smarter on all other carbs. its idling as i stated at anywhere between 1500 and 2500 rpms and will die if i get into it hard and let all the way off. if any one out there has any experience and can lend me a hand id appreciate it because nobody here has any experience with these carbs. thanks scott

I dont know subie carbs but I have restored old cars ranging from VW's to buicks, the first thing to check is the idler it is a bolt that will apply constant pressure on the accelerator when your foot is off the gas, if u can take picts of the carb and e mail them to me Ill circle the adjustment, but it has also been my experience that a car with FI is more fuel effecient and if your not runnign a turbo or heavy mods I dont think u need to use 93 just my .02

yeah i tried to adjust the idler the problem is that once i get the idle down below 1250 it starts running like it heck then at about 1000 it dies. as far as the FI to carb i know for a fact that the old gl's can get upwards of 30mpg my dad had the exact same car im buying but your right generally FI get better millage but the engine in the GL is a 1.8 and the one in my impreza is a 2.5. and i know i shouldnt have to use 91 oct. i never have before but once i moved here to wyoming and sitting at 7200 feet my mileage goes to from 23 highway to 19 on 87. well if you have any more suggestions im all ears. thanks scott
