Bring the car to a body shop, get an estimate. Go to another body shop, get an estimate. If both estimates are fairly close to each other, you should have a good idea how much $$$ its gonna cost.

Id find a small body shop like the ones you see in peoples garages preferably one that garantees its work if your scared of saving half the cost that a big name shop will charge.

Definatly would be worth your time to hunt down a small shop over getting a 50% or so price hike markup dont know about the stearing damage though.

Most the places have the high shop name markup big business markup and the plain ol extra bling of their shop name tabbed on to the cost.

I hit a person who pulled halfway into traffic and hit the brakes while i was looking away.

Cost was ranging 5grand at 2 shops 1800 for their scratch and cracked tail light 700 or so at a BS my neighbor pointed me to think total was barely over 3grand.

Looks New...... though it took me 3 days to talk the other party into going there thier fualt thier suggestion we do it without insurance before cost was added up. They even pulled a 2grand est.

Thanks for the advice. I knew most of the advice you gave me. However, I just want an opinion on the ballpark figure. I guessed ~6 to 7k. I would like to know what other people think.

well considering i have a 5x5 dent in my car with only a little cracked paint in my front fender thats going to cost 650 bucks i would say you are in trouble. And I went to three body shops, the two garage body shops wanted about 780 bucks for the damnage and the big name shop only wanted 650. So there was no contest when not going thru insurance.

Are you suggesting the car is totaled?

just looking at the cosmetic stuff - both doors, front and rear quarters, plus misc. other small bits (indicator light, wheel well trim, etc.) I would bet you are looking at somewhere between $3-5k at most shops around here (more if the front bumper needs to be replaced). If there is more damage (suspension, transmission, etc.) then the cost will go up a bit. If you need to do the repair on the cheap, first get an estimate (so you know what's messed up) then look for people parting out crashed cars and see if you can get the doors and front quarter panel - the rear is going to need a body shop, I am afraid... other bits which may be damaged/bent (struts, control arm, etc.) can be sourced in a similar manner. WRB is a popular color, so odds are you can even find the parts in the right color and not need to paint.
