Default 2.2t ring gap

I am having a difficult time digging up info on piston ring gap for the EJ22T. Someone on the board had a link to many useful subaru manuals (http://www.main.experiencetherave.co..._manual_scans/) but I can't seem to dig up any real numbers for this application.

Anyone have any tips for a starting point for the piston ring gap for a 2.2? I understand that higher HP might call for a little more gap than stock, but I would like to know what stock specs are.....

Matt

I would also like to offer my current findings:

2.0 ltr (WRX)
Top Ring: .20 - .35mm (.0079 - .0138")
2nd ring: .35 - .5mm (.0138 - .0197")
Oil ring rail: 0.2 - 0.7mm (.0079 - .0276")

2.5 ltr (STi)
Top Ring: .20 - .25mm (.0079 - .0098")
2nd ring: .37 - .52mm (.015 - .020")
Oil ring rail: 0.2 - 0.5mm (.0079 - .0197")

Maybe I should average them...

OK, to answer my own thread......

Ring gap for the 2.2:

The first two rings are exactly the same as the 2.5 (Sti)
The oil rail are exactly same specs as WRX 2.0

Is there any way that you can do a right up of how to properly put the rings on the pistons please. Also do you know what the gap would have to be if i went .020 larger of a piston for 2.2 and of course i bored my 2.2 to 3.825.
Do you know if there is a different way to put rings on for different pistons?
I'm getting CP's??

Thank you
mario

Honestly, I wouldn't feel right about doing a write up on something that I am just learning to do myself. If I can help you out, I will though.
When you say 3.825, are you referring to the bore diameter? At any rate, the only thing I know is the above info, which is for stock specs. It's my understanding that you want to be on the higher side of things (ie a little wider ring gap) for higher horsepower applications to allow for more room for ring expansion under high heat. The ring gaps can change depending on bore. So I really don't know for sure how to come up with a good number for that.

You might want to check this thread - http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...4&page=3&pp=25

It mentions .004 for every inch of bore, I would say minimum.

It looks like Subaru uses the multiplyer 2.2 for the top ring, and 4 for the second ring, and around 2.2 for the oil rings. Subaru has the tightest tolerances, unbelievable but that is good for power.
So Example
1st ring
WRX bore= 3.62" x 2.2= 7.964 which translates to .0079 tighter tolerance the better.
2nd ring
WRX bore=3.62" x 4= 14.48 which translate to .01448
Note: This only would apply when using the stock pistons & rings.
