I spun a bearing and screwed up my block and i had a turbo waiting to get installed. so when looking for a new short block i found out the ej22t out of a 91-94 legacy sport was a little cheaper and was a fully closed deck block i had no choice.
im using all my old stuff like heads, intake mainfold, ect. but im custom making a up and down pipe for the turbo and my friend is giving me his top mount off his 03 wrx. ill post pics and dyno as soon as i can.

The 2.2t was never delivered to my country, so I'd like to know 'what' it is.
I think originally it has 160hp vs. 136hp right? So it looks, figure wise, nothing more than a non-intercooled turbo. But does the block have different compressionratio's? Just by putting in different pistons? Do the pistons have oil-squirters? How far can you go with a regular EJ22 with light turbo and no internal mod's? And yes, I do use the searchbutton, but my knowledge of the Subaru engine are obviously too limited to understand many of what is said. But any links that start off at a noobielevel are welcome too. |

When I rebuild my EJ22T and stick it in my Wagon, I'm going to build my NA EJ22E with legacy internals and boost it as well.

R-P,
Search for a thread title "this should be the last Ej22T thread" It has a ton of links and details. More than you could ever want to know about the engine. But the short answer is that it is the strongest factory shortblock Subaru ever produced... |

Not the plain simple (and available) EJ22 (first gen.) Guess when I ever do get a subaru (I'm a first gen. Legacy station-fan), I'll see if I can get an import EJ22T block. Is it as easy as adding a good intercooler to get that thing up to 200 reliable hp? (and of course a little modding of the wastegate or a different turbocompressor (I have some theoretical turboknowledge, but none whatsoever in the practical region, so don't slaughter me if I say something stupid)) |

That's where us BC/BF 89-94 Legacy guys hang out. You will find the answers to your questions there. You can also visit NASIOC's pre-2002 turbo forum. But the short answer is buy a factory 91-94 Legacy turbo, that already has an EJ22T. 200chp requires an intercooler (Saab 900's are the most popular choice) and a fuel cut defender (there's a sticky about making your own) to be able to get the boost past 12.5 with an MBC. The vf10/11 can go to 14psi or so and still be within it's efficiency range. Those mods will get you over 200 hp. The liability is most of the factory turbos had auto. |

Thanks, will visit the other site.
Problem is that the EJ22T was never shipped to my country (Netherlands), so importing it might give problems with the governments-cardepartment who is very choosy about cars that don't have a 'typegoedkeuring'. (They have to know and have aproved the car or they won't give you the paperwork to get the car insured, they have to know the vehicle weight for instance, because roadtax is weight dependant, and they have to get this info from a manufacturer/importer supplied form). Then again, if I buy a 2.2 and change the engine for another 2.2 (which happens to have a turbo on it...) I don't expect too much trouble. The EAT4 isn't too bad for up to 200hp is it? Provided you don't race other cars at traffic lights (that's what I have my motorcycle for...) |
