Question FMIC; what kinds of mods need to be done to fit GC8??

Like the title says; what kinds of mods are needed to be done, if there is any??

None if you buy one made for a GC. Maybe a little bumper trimming.

Do you mean using a GD WRX one? I have a APS DR500 for a WRX that I'm going to try to install. If you have an EJ20 it might all line up correctly. I need to take eveerything apart one day to see how it'll fit. And then there is the bumper beam issue I need to figure out. I think I might hack my stock one because I don't think I'll be able to make the APS GD one work.

Actually there were a few spots that needed to be cut/trimmed.
I got a Greddy FMIC for a GC8 from Japan & had to cut a hole by the intake and one underneath the battery for piping. A light wieght bumper beam will save you alot of cutting, but you may want to lokk at other ways to protect the FMIC. I welded 1" steel pipe around it for protection.

It will all depend on what brand you get, they all route a little differently.

very good question ...depends on how old the car is on a 93 for example there is only 1 set of holes on the passenger side for piping to pass through

i have looked at the obx kit as a option but i am enjoying the instant spool of the tiny turbo that i have

I bought a Hybrid from Australia and didnt have to mod anything, I guess it just depends on quality of the FMIC and the year car its going in. A JDM bumper beam is nice, but a USDM one can be hacked too.

And it needs to be said that a FMIC does not add lag, who ever says it does is an idiot.

Dave, check ebay man. They are cheap and the core looks huge. It looks like it sticks out from under the bumper. How bad was it on your car steve? Looks like a nice kit though.

Type like ''Hybrid fmic'' and check their 'other products' they'll have a write up and pics of everything installed.

No perrin?

I was really happy with the Hybrid, its cheap so I wasnt expecting much. I got a free shipping deal so it was on my door step for $800. I had a minor hood clearance issue and its tight between the rad and cam cover but no major mods needed. I sold my JDM bumper beam so I just cut up the stocker.

As for the quality of my FMIC and how it fit (after the hacking of the beam), there were no issues, it went in easily.

Does a JDM bumper beam have any problem holding up the weight? Does that one bolt on underneath also, or anywhere besides the beam?

Cronic, don't forget ScoobieSteve is running a Ver. 6 engine. Do you think that affects the placement of the piping? The GC EJ20 might be positioned a little differently or the throttle body might be in a slightly different spot. Shouldn't be anything major though.

mine bolted to the body/frame in front, not the bumper beam...most likely it's the same

my bumper beam looks like that too. I remember seeing a thread where a fellow nasioc member hit another scoobie in the parking lot by accident and the guys fmic was severly damaged from a 5mph hit.

do u ahve any pics of the steel bar u welded around it ? Is it just a long flat bar like a strut bar welded on the top and bottom to absorb impact?

pics pics pics

not in digital....I was going to do some work on the car this week, maybe I'll pull the front bumper and take a few picks.

It's a basically a box around the FMIC, and is welded to the bumper beam in several places.

I bolted mine to the bumper beam and to the rad support on the bottom. The bumper beams (JDM and hacked USDM) are pretty strong and have no trouble supporting the weight. Also the kit comes with 2 pretty heavy brackets that bolt to the lower rad support and to the bottom of intercooler, you can just make out the bolts in my pictures. It would be easy to damage the intercooler but thats what insurance is for.

I would say there is very little you can do to protect the intercooler and keep your fogs.

Will insurance cover the intercooler? Or even anything in that area after seeing you barely have a bumper beam?
