Default SOHC head variants

What are the differences in the sohc ej25 as found in the outback, forester, impreza, etc. Is it just phase I and II or are there other variations? I want to build a 250 plus hp for use in an experimental aircraft and am going to go with 2.5 sohc heads on a new ej22t block. I am going to buy a salvage vehicle just for the heads, but need to know which vehicle year and model will give the best heads for this application i.e reliable and light with great flow.

I hope nothing... I've got one coming as a replacement for my RS. I suppose if worse comes to worse I can swap the cam if that is different, but I don't see the SOHC housing changine between models at all.

FYI, the phase I/II thing is about the size of the con.rod journals on the crank, and the location of the thrust bearing (center on the crank or at one end).

AFAIK
All sohc ej25 heads are identical in the US.

99 ran a different CR than the my00-01 but I *think* that was just a piston change.

I'm sure it was a piston change... the pistons out of my older block and the one out of a 99RS that I saw were identical, but my 00RS block had different pistons.

The 00RS has pistons with valve reliefs in them, but the 99RS has a big square milled out of the top of it. Not sure about the stock 98RS pistons tho.
