Default Got a good deal on my Baja

I've had a really hard time deciding on my new bad weather/winter beater vehicle. I've been mulling it over for almost 9 months now. I really was leaning towards another performance vehicle like a used TT AWD Stealth/3000 GTVR4, or a used WRX/STI/EVO.

But...I already have a mint, low mile 2001 SS Camaro and heavily built 1992 AWD Talon track car. I was wanting to replace my 1996 GTP which was really beat with 135k miles on it.

So I was out shopping AGAIN at the local Subbie dealer on Sat. testing STI's, WRX's and Legacy GT's after testing EVO's at the Mitsu dealer I was at earlier....I liked em all and I had a hell of a time but I finally told myself I REALLY, REALLY didn't need another turbo car that needs premium gas, and one that I in all likelihood would end up modding the **** out of and then not driving it in bad weather because it's "too nice".

In honesty I came to my senses, I wanted something fairly decent but something I don't really don't have to be too concerned about if it gets trashed, good in snow, and gets reasonable gas mileage.

So...while leaving, across the street from the Subbie dealer at a GM dealer I see a Subaru Baja getting loaded onto a truck.

I go over there and check it out. 2003, silver, 100% spotless.

Salesman happens to see me, so I'm like whats up with this Subbie? He tells me it's off to the auto auction they are moving out some cars and it's one of them.

Now I'm figuring they won't make **** at auction on it, so...

I tell him if I like it I'll buy it today if the price is right.

He gets the ok to pull it back off the truck and I take it for a spin.

All is well, spotless, 100% mint condition, 21,700 miles.
This thing is loaded.
Leather
cruise, tilt, A/C
Power everything, seats, locks, windows, mirrors
auto dimming rear view mirror with electronic compass
Power moonroof
Auto trans
keyless entry, remote start, alarm
Premium audio with sub/tweeters
rear dif. skid plate
bed extender

I rummage through the glove compartment, find the original window sticker, $26,135 new.

So I come back and tell him I want to use their computer.
OK..I run a car fax, it was sold new at the Subbie dealer I was just at across the street back in 2003, traded in at this dealer early this year, 1 owner, clean title, no reportable accidents.

I check TRADE IN (not retail)prices:
KBB trade in $14,275
Edmunds trade in $15,690
I look on Auto trader, they seem to be priced for around $16-18k.
E bay, hardly any sold, but 1 for $16,100.
NADA $16k trade, $18.5K retail

Well I got nothing to loose so I figure they are going to get a lot less than trade in at the auction.

I offer em $12,900 and I need $1,500 out of my in very poor condition 1996 GTP W/135k miles.

I thought he was going to laugh but he says lemme see.

He comes back with a counter of $13,500 and $1,200 for the GTP.

I say $13,250 and $1,350 trade.

Deal is accepted!
Also has an extended warranty for 5 years or to 85,000 miles, bumper to bumper, $100 deductible, towing/gas/flat tire/ lockout coverage AND...lifetime car washes and oil changes at the dealer too.

So I'm back to being a Subbie owner, I had a little 4WD wagon back in like 1983 and that was a blast.

I would've loved a 2005 turbo one, but I just could't see spending the money for another performance vehicle that will get a lot of miles put on it fast and see all kinds of Wisc. weather.

FWIW Here's a few pics:
