Ah, I'm looking at buying a WRX now.

To listen or not to listen to rumors.

I dont think you will be disappointed with the 08 or 09. You can always wait until they officially announce the 09 stuff and if you dont really need any changes they offer, you can always go for a leftover 08 that will have some incentive money on them (currently $1000 dealer cash) and get a good deal on a 2008.

I heard orders for the 2009 WRX can be placed in a couple weeks and will arrive at dealerships about 8 weeks later.

Hopefully Subaru will firm up the suspension a bit on the WRX, as well as add some top-end power...

WRX's have never had top end power, nor any factory US spec Subaru turbo vehicle that I can remember. I know my 2003 and 2005 WRXs didnt nor did my 05 LGT.

In ever sold order I have ever done on a Forester or Impreza, it has been closer to 12 weeks from order to actual delivery of the vehicle.

My dealership told me there were a bunch of spy pics of the new "2011" Legacy out on the web (and then proceeded to show me a bunch of photochops). This was the sales manager.

I had to correct him that it was going to be a 2010 Legacy, not 2011, and those were *not* spy shots, but artists renderings. He did say that he saw pictures of one in a dealer meeting, and that he thought some of the internet pictures were pretty accurate. Unfortunately, the one he then showed me as being "accurate" was an old photochop with the '05-07 grille and the Japanese Spec.B front bumper. The side had a swoopy character line, but it was clear the original picture was of an '05-07 Legacy GT.

I don't think they'll be going back to that.

Here's the pic he showed me:

Grayson, just curious about your above statement since you obviously have a ton of experience w/ subarus. I have an 04 wrx wagon and father has a 2007 outback. Why do you like the 08 more than 05 lgt, i was considering getting rid of wrx and into either a new wrx or lgt or obxt...any comments appreciated.

The LGT was a nice car, but I missed the feel of the WRX. The LGT just drove like a bigger car. Sure, it had great features (leather, sunroof, power seats, etc), but it just wasn't me. The new Impreza has more interior volume than a legacy, is a few grand less (even though it has less equipment), but for me, is more fun to drive.

The LGT isnt a bad car, but it just depends on what you prefer. With having an outback, you may prefer the LGT over the WRX.

I think LGT insurance was a little less than the WRX at the time. My 08 WRX is less than my 03 WRX was on insurance though. I think I pay about $100 less every 6 months for my 08 WRX than I did my 03.

Question

Is it true that instead of buying a wrx sti is cheaper if you just do the work yourself buying the parts, or is it just better to fork out the extra couple thousand to get the upgrades? Probably the most lame post but i'll get all this someday.

Future thanks

It depends on what you want. If you just want similar handling and power, sure, it's probably cheaper. It won't get you a 6-speed, the DCCD, SI-Drive, or all the LSDs (well, it might get you the LSDs).

Default Not cheaper by a long shot

Just go to rallyspec.com and start adding the diffs and you will be well above the cost of the STI. Granted parts in general are the greatest fraud perpetuated by car companies, but still there is a lot of bang for your buck in the STI.

A salesmen at mattslap subaru in newark Delaware told me " spt is coming out with a 550whp bolt on package for the 08 STI that keeps all of your warranties." And that I should buy an 08 STI.

I couldnt help but call him out saying that people would be breaking axles and all sorts of other things and that there is no way subaru would produce such a kit for reliability reasons.

All I could do was laugh and say good try with trying to get me to buy an 08

Default 4 Door sedan STI in 2010?

I heard a rumor from my Subie Dealer that Subaru is going back to the 4door sedan for the STI in 2010. not sure if its true but lets hope so. I dont hate the 5 door (who could its still a Subaru) but i tell you what i would have got the STI if it was the sedan.

It is probably not, if for no other reason that I want one and I typically never get what I want.

God I hope not! Sedans aren't very sporty! The 5-door is far superior in appearance over the sedan and actually looks like a sports car. Let's hope your horrid rumor is false!

Agreed! I would much rather see an STI legacy, but a very close second would be an Impreza sedan STI. I too would have bought an STI sedan if I had that option when I got my car.
