Making the Impreza LINE specifically coupes would be a terrible move for Subaru. Maybe a good amendment to you're idea would be to offer the Impreza in BOTH 4 doors and a coupe. However 4 doors is far from redundant.

1: I assume you are referring to the 2.0 liter with 220hp comment... that is the rumor for the DI naturally aspirated engine in the Celica/Subaru coupe toyota joint project. It may not materialize, but who knows.

2: Are you sure? maybe you are right... but between 2001 and 2007, it was sedan and 5-door only, and the sedan had the slight edge on looks, and was the only STI body style. Little choice.

Since 2008MY, it has been heavily favoring the 5-door, seemingly, and also now the only STI bodystyle. the 4-door seems to have been a bone thrown to the US market, and it seems redundant with the 2.5i and 2.5GT Legacy, which gets almost no attention, from SOA or otherwise.

I do like 4 doors. and I am so VERY glad I have a Legacy GT over a WRX 4-door. I would make the same choice over and over again. I don't know why when someone goes to a Subaru dealer, and ask for a 4-door, NA or Turbo, they don't get pointed at Legacy. Why Impreza 4-door?

Point 2, I wasn't suggesting that a COUPE be the ONLY impreza bodystyle. I was suggesting that it replace the 4-door, and be sold model-for-model alongside the 5-door Impreza, GT/WRX, and STI. Why not choose 5-door or 3-door on the Impreza line, and 4-door gets pointed toward Legacy?

Although, if Subaru screws up the '10 Legacy... who knows. I still wouldn't buy an Impreza 4-door or 5-door. They are both horrendously ugly without drastic modification, and even then still at a deficit of aesthetics.

I would wait for the Suba-yota coupe, buy an 09 Legacy Spec B left-over, or if all else fails, buy a used Infiniti, Audi, older Porsche or something else entirely. I can't make myself spend tens of thousands of dollars on a very good car (like WRX or STI) that I can't bear to look at favorably, inside or out. Current Legacy is good. Impreza, and Legacy Concept or Exiga are not attractive to me, despite their technical advantages.

I so badly want a good subaru coupe that I can appreciate technically, as well as enjoy the styling of, both interior and exterior. I am getting tired of looking at good tech and having to look past the ugly. Or seeing attractiveness wasted on FWD cars that I can't enjoy as well in a technical sense.

Not true. Yes, it was first offered in North America, but the Impreza 4-door sedan is now offered in a number of markets.

It cracks me up how people rave about utility of a 4 door sedan yet miss doubled utility of a hatchback/wagon. I actually fitted 52 inch LCD, ottoman and routinely transport bunch of other stuff in mine.

If the STI just came as sedan, then I'd rather get a EVO.

Loosing STI hatch would sadden many people, I'm glad I got mine.

The evo is a beautiful car, much more aggressive then any STI i have ever seen. And the rear of an evo is perfect... i would much rather have an Evo back with STI sides, and either STI or evo front, depending on how aggressive i wanted the car to look.

Hopefully the STI sedan will be offered without a huge wing (as in no wing, period), as it's time to put that boy-racer look out to pasture. I doubt it will happen, but one can only hope...

Edmunds de-winged one of their long-term EVOs, and it looks sooooo much better w/o the wing.

I hope this is true about a new STi sedan. Currently the only way I get another Subaru to replace my current WRX in a couple years is if I get a used STi or Spec-B. If Subaru does this and brings the coupe I'll have a tough choice to make.

Yeah, but it's probably going to be a 2 door, 350hp, w/ twin-clutch 7 speed, 19x9" wheels, STI brakes, DCCD, fender flares, quad trunk-exit exhaust and a revised suspension geometry that works best 0.5" off the ground!

i think u had it all wrong. my dealership told me it will be a hybrid, 316 hp, 0-60 in 5.9 sec, 3900 lb curb weight because of the electric motor + battery

The owner of our dealership just returned from a SOA pow-wow with some great news!

In early 2011 a NAAAASTY looking STi sedan will be back for sale, complete with the large spoiler, flared fenders and back to its rally heritage. Unfortunately its all hush-hush so he couldn't bring back any images or more info, but I figured you would appreciate the news. And No, its not anything like the Toyota concept or any "spy" pics that are out there. Sorry I don't have much more info as of now, but ill keep you updated. FYI all future manuals are 6 speeds, even on base models. Woot. (Edited for spelling)

So for all those rumors of the STI getting discontinued it looks like Subaru may have a few more cards up it's sleeve.

I agree, waiting to see what the 2010 STI is going to be. Logically they are going to increase HP but you never know. Spec C is being listed at 320HP.

I am looking at trading in my 2007 WRX but am torn on what to do at this point...the dealership does have a 2009 Legacy Spec B for sale however but may be a little larger than what I am looking for.
