Default The "My Dealership Told Me" Thread

Nice... I dont think I like the change... For people like me it works though because I follow touring plansa nd schedules and my kids would probably be at the front of the line... but what about all the rest of the people who had no idea they had to show up half an hour early to get their kid in the show?

Greetings, my northern neighbor. You know, I wondered if it was the wrong thread too, but noticed he titled his post "The My Dealership Told Me Thread". Seems to know where he is. Maybe he's replying to some post from ages ago without quoting it. *shrug* Note the join date.

For a legacy STI, I think a big bump in HP would be credible , for an impreza STI, yes taht number is too high

My dealership is claiming a sedan in 2011 as many others have.

I think I'm inclined to believe her, simply because she seems to have absolutely no general car knowledge :P She didn't know who made the Lancer Evolution and hadn't heard about the STI Special Edition (I'm in Canada).

Default 2 completely new models for 2012?

That's what Subaru has been saying: an AWD hybrid and a joint-venture Toyota/Subie coupe, both arriving in 2012.

Let me ask you this: When did Subaru ever offer two "completely new cars" (body, engine/drivetrain, market segment) in the same year?

The answer is easy. They haven't. In fact the most recent all-new, all-Subaru vehicle that meets the above criteria was the SVX, back in '92.

So, that being the case, my take is that the AWD hybrid and coupe are one and the same.

Well it would be plausible, given the the hybrid concept isn't exactly practical. A salesman at Subaru told me that he had been hearing definitive noise about the coupe being available in a hybrid someday, but I'm sure they hear the same chatter that we do. I'm just not sure how you package a battery pack into a small coupe, even with Li-ion bats.

in wheel motors for the front.. how that works i have no idea, but numerous people have said on here that it is possible. Make the coupe a dedicated RWD and plug in electric motor for the front two wheels, and now you have a hybrid... there was an article recently that stated subaru would have a cheap coupe and then they would bring back the SVX as a hybrid and make it a higher end vehicle

i'd love to see subaru put out a GTR killer.

I'm willing to bet the phrase "all-new" is being slightly missused.

Default Another reason...

The coupe will be a relatively low-volume car. So field-testing (as in low production volume) an AWD hybrid would be pretty easy, and safe.

Also, those purchasing this coupe are likely to fall into the "early adaptor" segment; meaning young, fun-loving folks, eager to be the first on the block to own something new; think Mac-type buyers. Once the technology is proven, it could be adapted to higher volume vehicles.

I heard subaru was working on a CVT for the turbo in the Legacy. I say if they can put a cvt behind the turbo then they can put it behind the 3.6 also.

No, as it used an existing engine and drivetrain. The DOHC 3.0, 5EAT, VDC, VTD all debuted a year earlier in the Legacy/Outback.

Ah. I see.. You taking "All-New" to the extreme!
New engine, new body, new chassis, new radiator?

I catch your drift.

I'm going by what is known:

• AWD hybrid—completely new to Subaru

• Joint-venture sports coupe—completely new to Subaru

Supposedly both expected in 2012. I just don't see Subaru pulling off two completely new cars in one year. That's why I think they're both one and the same vehicle.

Not sure how true this is going to be but I thought I would throw it out there.

I was at the Chicago Auto Show on Saturday and wandered into the Subaru invite only event for Subaru owners in room 105s (I think). My wife and I didn't get an email about it, I just learned of it by asking all these people carrying around Subaru bags throughout the day. Anyway, I was talking to one of the Subaru people there and mentioned my wife and I both had STIs. He tells me that for the 2011 model year there will be a STI sedan. That was really all he told me, so I don't know if it is true or not but I didn't see any threads or anything on it here.

On a side note, I was admiring the Auto Art model they had on display of the 2001 SCCA Pro Rally bug eye WRX car. One of the Subaru people just says, "I saw you checking out that model, would you like it?" Me: "Uhhhhhh......yeah?" Him: "Ok, go ahead and take it." Me: "Thanks!"

^^The STI sedan seems pretty solid.

This makes the most sense to me; makes it both AWD and hybrid but keeps the engine above/behind the front wheels

Toyota has a system that is basically FWD plus an electric motor on the rear.

WTF, I was at the show on Saturday afternoon and I asked about those blue bags and they told me that it was from giveaway earlier in the morning.
I didn't get an invite either, like we did 2 years ago when teh new Forester came out.

last time i went to a dealership about auto purchases they tried to sell me a brand new 1st Gen Tribecca for my first car when i said an old Impreza with a manual would be fine. the last time i went to a dealership i got ripped off and they wouldn't leave me alone for a year no matter how many times i said NO and sent pictures of the 94' Impreza L totaled and disassembled. lesson learned- Never give email to dealers!
