Rally Stuff Mmm.... RallyCross

Ok, so I'm seriously tired of waiting for May 14th.

In the meantime, I think I've created what may be one of the best stock/street-modified legal rallycross gravel tire available.

Step 1: BF Goodrich KDWS featuring fancy pants "g-Control" sidewall inserts for a virtually rock solid sidewall.

Step 2: Some additional siping using my 0.215" tire groover.

Step 3: Dirt!

If I remember correctly, RE92's have very soft sidewalls... considering just that, these should be a nice step up. Now MoDrift, when I can use your tire groover?

Thanks

*reaches out to smack Duo* You didn't just call my new "super rallycross" tire a RE92 did you??!

The sidewall inserts in the KWDS make a huge difference, I wasn't able to keep RE92s on the wheel even at 40psi when I had my WRX. When I got my first set of KDWSes for RallyCross a few years ago (after dumping RE92s) the difference was immediately noticable in the dirt. These tires with have quite a bit of teeth with the new wider sipes. Well, best possible given the 0.22" regulation. Hoche has been running KWDSes on his OBS for the past few years as well.

I ran Continental Contri Contact Extremes (or whatever those are called) last year and was very unimpressed with them. They may be a good wet weather, snow tire, but almost no good in gravel.

Ed - sure, this thing is a lot of fun. Depth adjustable. I currently have a 0.215" blade. Cuts like butter. This is what I have:

There's the result after my first tire:

That does look like fun! I want to open up my rally tires a bit as they were horrible in muddier conditions last year... much more of a dry dirt and gravel tire. I think with some nice sipes like yours, they should do pretty well though. Remind me, where are you located?

I'm in Menlo Park (pennisula). You're around Davis right? Not close... but if you're ever in the neighborhood you're certainly welcome to stop by.

You could run it off an inverter at the next event.

I'm flying out to Vegas in a couple hours... gone all weekend. Then getting married NEXT weekend. You're welcome to borrow it - but I need to finish my other 3 tires too. Should only be 15-20 minutes per tire now that I did the first one.

No worries on the class - just need to know that morning at the very latest. Well, a couple days ahead is best since I lay out the run groups the day before. Remember than the ONLY mod that makes you Open class is tires.
