Default Will the grounding mod stop the laser!

If I do the ever popular grounding mod for my WRX will it stop my Passport 8500 from giving me a "laser" alert when the voltage fluctuates. Every time I give it a little gas it sounds like a ghetto phone.

Any suggestions?

Probably not. How is your detector installed, is it just plugged into the lighter or is is hardwired? Usually when they are hardwired this does not happen.
I know that Valentine had an updated power adapter for this same problem, not sure about the situation with Escort but you can call or email them and see if they can help you.

It sounds like you are picking up some noise on the power wire somehow. You might try using a capacitior to eliminate this problem. If you can find about a 1000 microfarad @20 volts capacitor and tie that to the power connection somewhere it may fix this problem. Be sure to tie the negative lead to ground of the power source. If the problem is caused by high frequency noise then a capacitor at around .1 microfarad may be better.

If you use a capacitor, it should be installed as close to the detector as possible.

OH OH OH OH!!! I had this SAME problem with my radar detector. I called up the company and they said I can buy a noise filter to put on the power line of the wire at like radio shack. SOOO I went to radio shack and bought the 4 dollar noise filter thing and it hasn't done it since! Needless to say, thats probably what you'll have to do. I had to hard wire mine it so I can put it on. And its quite large the filter... Its about 3/4"/1"/1".
