Default Something to tie me over until the WRC Tarmac Project is finished...

In the last 6 months or so it's taken me to aquire everything I need to finish up the WRC Tarmac Project, I managed to convince my wife to let me modify her car to tie me over.

We've been taking it to some local shows where it has been received pretty well, so I figured I'd post some pics...

It's a 2005 Scion xB. I'm going for an ultra clean, very mild JDM look...

Enjoy the pics!

Yeah, it is kinda weird...I used to live in Japan so this car is not really new to me. It's called a Toyota bB over there and it's been out for quite a while.

The WRX has been in and out of *surgery* for so long that my wife actually wanted to get another vehicle. She was tired of carpooling. She wanted a small car that had a lot of room. The xB fits that bill perfectly.

JewPac42 - Here's the "list"

Tanabe Super Hyper Medalian Exhaust
Tanabe Strut Tower Brace
Tanabe DF210 springs
AEM Cold Air Intake
AEM Battery Tie Down
AEM Oil Cap
Scion Carbon Front End Mask
Falken Hanabi Wheels, 17x7.5, staggered offset, 42mm up front, 32mm out back
Kuhmo ASX's, 215/40/17's
Vinyl graphics (my own design)
Pioneer AVIC N1, custom mounted in bottom slot using Metra kit #99-8209
Pioneer/Premier P-686 6 disc CD changer

Thanks for the comments guys!

I think that looks really good. I didn't know that color was offered? I have very mixed opinions about the xB. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. I gotta test drive one sometime. How do they drive? What would you compare it to?

I totally dig everything on it cept the graphics. Very smooth, very pretty overall!

Believe me, I thought about it, but I don't know if I can get that past the wife, he he he. The only really reliable option for boost is the Blitz supercharger which is not cost effective for me. I'd rather spend that money in the WRX There is a turbo kit form TRD from the Japanese Spec bB, but the ECU's are way different I'm told and since it's made for right hand drive it may not be a total bolt in.

Is it done? I dunno. The longer it takes me to finish the WRX, the more mods the xB will have, he he he. If it were up to me, this is what the rest of the "list" would look like:

Kenstyle lip kit
Tanabe coilovers
Carbon hood
Carbon rear hatch
...and possibly the same wheels and tires but in 18's, and maybe a sound system. This is her daily driver though and I don't think she would like the ride quality of 18's, cause they would be 35 series sidewalls which are sorta thin for these streets 'round here...

HolyCrikey -

There really is not too much to compare it to...you'll just have to check it out in person to see for yourself. I'm sure there are cars out there that may be small in size w/ a lot of interior room, but the xB really does exaggerate it. Plus, it's styling is totally different (love it or hate it) than most cars on the road. It's based on the Toyota Echo platform and uses the same 1.5L motor which has a pretty good track record for reliability.

As for the ride, the stock springs are kinda harsh. It's a very taught ride with a relatively short wheelbase. It's not too bad unless you have it loaded down with 4 people. The new springs actually make it ride a lot smoother. I'd say test drive one if you get the chance...

I think the wheels are perfect, 18's would look a little out of place. I wouldnt give it too much longer till there is a Jackson Racing SC kit, I dont know if they are developing one or not, but I wouldnt be surprised and they are usually pretty resonable pricewise.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but I have seen the xB done up in a bunch of different styles...

We were talking about it at the last car show I was at...

The thing is, to *me*, the xB screams for a JDM style build up. But for most other people who never had the opportunity to live in Japan and see this vehicle day in and day out, the styles may be completely different.

You have the Mini-Truck crowd who would lean towards a wild paint scheme, hunkered down on bags, the SUV guys who are putting on 19" chrome spinners, and also the JDM VIP style where guys are slamming them over these ultra deep dish, low offset 15" wheels all cambered out.

I think it's pretty cool that this car can be built with so many different styles and still look good IMHO. There aren't too many cars on the road today that I can say that about anymore. The xB lends itself to break the mold, but I can appreciate what you mean sorta...some of the accessories I've seen are better left on the shelf...but that's with any car nowadays...

Nice! My best-friend is about to get a white XB in a matter of days! He plans to keep it clean and "JDM" in a few subtle ways. Ill keep you updated...

oh how i hate that dash...

but i agree... the xB can be done in many many different ways and in my opinion, the more JDM the better.

this one is one of the best i've seen! a TRD turbo kit would be awesome though.

i don't really like the wheels, but i'd urge you to stick with 17's as well.

Ah, the wheels...

Yeah, that was the first thing I asked about before I bought them. I'm such a damn perfectionist it bothered me too when I first saw them, he he he. The thing is, after doing some research, most directional wheels are like that (one mold) unless you spend some serious cash. I went with these wheels in particular because of 2 reasons really. They are anodized bronze, which in person really looks nice against the Camo Green...and they are very light, weighing in at like 16.5 lbs or so, which is helpful since the little 1.5L is not the fastest car in the world. The fact that they only cost me $125 each is a nice bonus. Cheap, light, and looks good. I don't think I was ever able to say that about anything with my WRX, he he he!!!
