you should try a search because there have been several helpful threads of people who have done it before...you will need both schematics though...there is also cutting, trimming and molding needed...

I put one into a 1994 dash. It will fit into the 98 and later dash a little easier, will still require cutting and molding just not as much, and you have to completely rewire it.

wow this would sound like a really great mod. I really hate my rs gauge cluster. I would be great if someone can explain the major step to this. i would love to see the needle do a full sweep everytime i start my car. one question. if it can be done then a JDM sti cluster could be done too right?

Any cluster can be done. You need the wiring diagrams for both clusters and the connectors for the cluster you're swapping in. Just splice everything together, if you can read a wiring diagram the wiring is pretty straight forward. I don't know what it takes to physically fit the cluster into a 98+ dash exactly, but it's got to be easier than the 94 dash I was working on. The 98+ clusters mount similarly to the GD's, a screw on each side and 1 on top(the pre 98 clusters were completely different). Plus the 98+ have the same relative shape overall as the GD's, so you probably won't have to trim as much to fit them(they may bolt right in as far as the mounts go, I don't know). Then you just have to do surgery on the 2 gauge surrounds with some fiberglass and bondo to make it look good.

You can browse through my pictures here... to see where i cut.

Wiring for this is different for each car, i have my 12L intercooler tank wired to mine, the outside air temp wired to mine, and a bunch of other stuff. Not everyone is going to do the same thing. Try to get both manuals like Eby said, and figure it out...

Do you have to actually remove the dash to do this?? I noticed in Mumbles pics he had the dash out. I imagine this was really for wiring in the v7 ECU, but I hope you wouldn't have to remove the dash to swap the gauge cluster.

i do know the 04 cluster has the 2 bottom tabs, which the holes on the GC dash are just slightly offset from the wrx holes, nothing a dremel can't handle though. I'll be putting the 04 in my 01 rs. Possibly today. If so i'll take some pics.
