Default Removing air intake box

Aright, so from my last post it seems that a ram air or cold air intake is pretty much pointless, when it comes to the money. So, i was thinking that removing the air intake box would give me the same aural improvements that i would get from paying 100 dollars for an intake. I was wondering if anyone knows to a site that outlines the steps in doing so (pictures?). Ive removed the box, and this stuff is mechanically simple, but I am under the impression that something needs to be there, and so i wanted to know if anyone knew what kind of parameters to follow. Ive heard people have modified aluminum or plastic coffee cups to form a new box which id be interested to know if anyone has done.

Why not just get a Perrin or other drop in replacement filter and leave the box in place? If you just plumb in some tubing or a coffee can and add a filter you are gonna lost the air reservoir and hurt low end. Or so I understand it.

My brother got me a cheapy air intake. He had to wait about a month for it. Quality made in Taiwan for about $20.00. I put it on my 03 n/a, and now it sounds like a motorcycle when you nail it. This thing is loud especially at wot!! I think it was for a Legacy. It had one port I had to plug, then extend the pcv hoses to meet it. Sure makes workin under the hood easier, with all of the factory crap out of the way!! Mike

Yeah, cheapo intakes are the way to go. I mean, why pay ridiculous amounts of money for a tube with a filter on it? Is that not the same as another tube with a filter on it? People pay for a name. They'll tell you differently, but it's just because they got ripped off.

I removed the pipes leading up to the airbox (aka silincer pieces) Baja does seem to have better pickup and a REALLY NICE sound when you hit wot around 4k RPM. I'm going to get a cheap cold air intake kit just so it gets more cold air. Then going to borolla headers, and getting a nice exhaust. Did a nice launch today when a wrx was behind me. He was shocked imo since he didnt move for a good 10 seconds
