I helped out with a stage crew both days, but didn't race. Dan Garber (Difuser) was in the #263 Burien Toyota Corolla. He's the only other one I know of.

What's the whole story behind the rally car/spectator car crash? Anyone have the full story. Both cars looked pretty bad when I drove by.

That pic of 263 wasn't quite what I was expecting! As for the wreck, don't know much, but they sent the drivers to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Don't think there where any terrible injuries, at least.

RuskeR:

As for the rally car/spectator crash...
The cars involved were a Subaru RX(rally) and a current-model Mazda Protege(civilian).

The crash occurred on the transit immediately after SS4, which is a rather twisty bit of gravel road - think it was a blind right-hand turn. There were some spectators parked off on the side of the transit road. The RX exiting the stage had an offset head-on collision with the Protege, which may have been going in the opposite direction or trying to park(?). The co-driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution, and I think the occupants of teh Mazda were, too.

-Based on my observations of the accident's aftermath.
My brother and I (car 279 - last place, baby!) got stuck behind the the accident and missed SS5 due to the delay!

What car were you rallying? Anyways, yeah it looked kinda bad. The thing that pissed me off is I amlost hit one of the lancers. I understand they need to get back to service thier car but, damn there are cars coming up the mountain. If I would have been alittle faster going up that mountain I would have been at the same corner when the evo came around. That's some crazy stuff. Kinda stupid how they have the rally cars come down while the spectators go up?! I hope the next rally will not let that happen again.

BTW. who's fault would it have been? Wonder how the insurnace halndes that.

the RX was late and lost.. they missed a turn at first getting off the stage...
they were hurried a bit..

the mazda was moving on up the stage...
there were no notes at that time in the route book about 2 way traffic...

the driver sustained 9 stitches to his head - he hit the roll bar... and co driver got bumps and bruises...

it's ironic in that the rally car driver and co driver.... well the mazda they collided with... was owned by the best man at their wedding... hehehee now that's just freaky!!

all are ok and we're looking forward to seeing Andy and Julie again soon!

Yes, Andy and Julie both had their belts on they were loosened up but Andy is 6'8" so he doesn't have much room in the car and can hit the bar even if the belts are slightly loose. The car is now woithout front end and we are hoping to put the new clip on this week the damage looked far worse than it really was once we got it apart, as for the Mazda RIP if you look in the picture you can see the tail of Andy's RX we are looking to have him running for ****epoke woo hoo
