Default frustrating UTEC problem, need help for sure

alrighty, did a search, couldnt find anything....here it goes.

03 wrx, 5 speed, perrin intake, borla header, gutted upipe, stock turbo, stock boost, 3 inch turbo back. I bought a used 5B UTEC(w.remote map switch) that was supposed to be in perfect working order, was installing it today with my friend rob who has had his stage 4 12second wrx with utec for the past 2 years. He installed his no problem since he has a strong computer background, so he helped me with mine. First problem, i get the utec and there is a wire pulled out of its connector inside the white plug, i fixed that with a new connector. 2nd problem is we plug it in with the 9 volt battery to the laptop to upload a stage 2 map and nothing, he called the utec there was no interaction and no response from the utec(the red lite was on). I double checked to make sure the toggles were set to B for normal operation, they were, he double checked all the setting per turboxs user manual. After that nothing happened again(red lite still on), we decided to hook it up to the car and see what happens. Once again nothing happens(red lite on). We thought maybe the com cable was bad so we hooked it up to his car, everything works fine, his Utec answers and prompts currectly. Go back to my car with a new com cable, nothing again(but red lite is on), we take the utec out and try it once more with the 9v, miraculously it answers. We upload the stage 2 map and fill the rest with another version of the stage 2, and then fill in the rest of the map spaces with the same stage 2 map. Go to start the car on map 0 which is supposed to be stock(red lite on), car wont start just cranks. Switch it to map1, map 2, map 3, map 6(valet) etc and car wont start. Go through the paramaters once again, he trouble shoots, and the car still wont start. I put the stock ecu back in and everything is fine. The car was flashing a SYSTEM TOO LEAN code, so i bought the utec to be able to add more fuel in the car and remedy the too lean problem. Is there anything that we might be missing, i am going to call Turboxs tomorrow to see what they think..

sorry about the novel i just wrote but i am really desperate to get this car running good cause i havent boosted in 2 weeks.....been keeping it out of boost ever since i bought the car and it sucks.....im am starting to think this is just a bad utec and im gonna have to somehow get my money back from the sheisty bastard that sold it to me.....

Sounds like a loose wire or bad utec.

If you have a code for too lean, I'd check some other things before adding a utec. This is the normal sized Perrin intake, yes? What specifically is the code pulled? You might have a leak after the MAF that is letting in unmetered air.

yes its a regular size perrin intake, ill check the code again when i get back to my buddys shop, he has the code reader, i had the code checked at autozone the first week i got it and it was system too lean code so i havent boosted at all, i just got a factory intake so im going to replace that and see what happens, the fact that i paid this much money for a utec and its broke pisses me off, and the guy i bought it from is trying to say it wasnt broke and that im scamming him and am saying its a different utec and im trying to send him back a bad one, im gonna send him a subpoena to court if i dont get my money back.....
