Default Petition to get Clark Turner to the SE for some tuning

Or any other accomplished UTEC tuners. Needed badly in the SE region. Could go to Dyno4mance or Btlground. Who would be in if someone could come? What tuner could come if we could get enough people? Smell the lead in the air....MMmmmm.

Why would you waste your time doing that instead of going to shops around the area that can already tune the UTEC?

Also, IBTL.

Topspeed, Knowledge, Battlground and Subaru of Gwinnett can all do UTEC for you if you need it done. I would goto either SoG or Topspeed.

I never thought I would say anything like this but...too many good performance shops in this town.

If you would like give us a call (678-297-7770) we would be more than happy to get the most out of your car. Just ask around we have quite a lot of cars on this forum that we have tuned, all with great success. We do all tuning on the dyno (AWD Dynojet) and then a final road tune just to make sure everything is perfect.

-Doug

Edit: Clark is a great tuner, but with all the great tuning shops that are right here in Atlanta it would be waste of money and time not to pick one.

Well, I must say that Clark can nail most cars down in under 2 hours. Most shops I have talked to are talking 3-4 hours at over $100 an hour... plus the shop fee and so on. In a nut shell, I think some people like the straight forward approach Clark takes, as he is so well known as a tuner and his rep is widely known. With all the local shops, while convenient, may not have the same notoriaty that Clark has and some people are just picky. All in all, it is a matter of personal preference. Having local shops who can tune is VERY nice tho

I agree but the cost to fly Clark in would be very expensive Plus doesn't he charge more than $100 an hour? I think we have enough talent in the Atlanta market now.

I cant imagine flying someone in to tune a UTEC. I've seen certain people go out of their way to get help with a Motec, MAYBE an AEM, but a UTEC? It's like tuning a Super AFC, just get someone local to do it. On another note, 3-4 hours to tune is absurd, whoever told you that has no clue of what they're talking about. I've tuned 700hp cars in an hour, so 3-4hrs for a street car is crazy. Also, Im not sure what a "shop fee" consists of, but I've never once charged anyone a "shop fee" for tuning, or have any idea what it is for that matter. Me, Dan, or countless other people can tune a UTEC locally. Do yourself a favor, make an appointment with whoever you think is gonna get the most out of your setup, and be done with it.

I know there are tuners and some are good. But I'm talking elite tuners. I can tune. But can I tune as good as Clark or Rifts or Nathan? Hell no. When I first got my utec, I went to a tuner in Atlanta and the map sucked. Good thing is I learned how to fix it. Hmm, spend extra money on a tuner I know to be good or waste another $300 on a tuner I have never heard of and get another doo doo map. I'm sure there are good tuners in the SE, but none that have tuned as many UTECs and done more for the UTEC community than the above named. I take it you guys are not down. Sorry to intrude on your community.

Exactly the reason I want a known tuner. Comparing a SAFC to a UTEC

You are willing to fly someone in to tune your car, yet you bought a utec to tune your car with.

If you really want to make power ditch the utec.

There are plenty of Elite tuners in Georgia.

Although I am not a fan of Topspeed, alot of people use Doug so he cant suck that bad.

Dan at Batlground, George at Twisted Tuning, Scott at SOG.

Bottom line is you are wasting your time flying someone in to tune your UTEC.

UTEC sucks

You signed up for NASIOC just for this? What EM do you use? Race and pump gas map? I bet you drive a Civic or a DSM. Go away.

I now see why trhoppe said IBTL.

rjrutzky,
While the UTEC is a good tuning tool there are certainly more robust engine management systems available. By comparison it could seem a bit simplistic to some of the more advanced standalones. While sleepingtalon was using a bit of exaggeration, his point was that the UTEC isn't something so niche and specialized that any tuner worth their salt couldn't take care of it locally in a very reasonable amount of time.

Have you even called some of the local shops to get quotes or are you just assuming that it's going to be 3-4 hours from any of the above mentioned shops? A few minutes of phone calls would take less time than posting here and yield a lot more factual information than speculation.

AEM and HYDRA are awesome if you don't need license plates.

I'll probably tune myself at dyno4mance or go with Dan at Batlground because I have friends who have gone there and have heard good things.

Biggly, the UTEC IS very specialized. Not so much as a standalone, but more difficult tune in some areas because of the nature of a piggyback. The Clark, "group buy", dyno day has been done before with great success. But this will evidently not happen in the SE. When one tuner can get 30 plus whp more than another you have to wonder if "easy" is nothing more than not complete.

Man did I stumble upon a sensitive subject. I'm sure that any tuners in the SE will take any offense by me wanting a tune from Clark, Rifts, Nathan, etc. It's funny that average Joe's do though

WE take offense cause its our friends you are talking about. I have friends at both SoG and Topspeed. If I had friends at the other places I would be even more offended.

If your heart is set on having Clark or someone else do the tuning then call Dyno4mance in Calhoun. They have had Clark and have Shiv of Vishnu regularly. I am sure they can set something up for you.

I'll talk to Mike at Kingpin and see when Clark is free. He's handling their sales stuff now too so he's been a bit busy.

I love the guys at two of the shops down in Atlanta and they both do great stuff. However.... You're not going to find the Subaru experience that Clark has anywhere down there. I'm sure that everyone down there could learn a thing or two from him as he's been on the cutting edge for several years now.

Oh.. as for the UTEC sucks comment... When you tune your own car you're allowed to have an opinion. As I know you don't... please reserve your comments and just keep throwing money at whatever system your tuner recommends.

PS: The UTEC is more standalone than you think.. it has it's own injector drivers, etc... they're just phasing in the programs to bring it more towards a standalone while making it easy to get running.
