Talking Minimum ECU Tuning Required????

I know this is a noob question, but here we go.... Will I need to tune my ECU if I get an axleback or catback exhaust? I just read a thread on an 05 WRX blowing the engine when trying to keep up w/ some exotics. Will my car's engine blow if I try to run at WOT full speed for a certain amount of time? Btw the guy had UP DP at least I think. Thanks for the input NASIOCers

no tuning needed for a catback.

Where is a common threshold to start doing some ECU tuning? E.g. at what level of modification should this start? Or should it be the first thing to do?
