Default WTB: an impreza 98-01 or earlier or 2004-later

hi i am a scooby newbie. i am looking to get a 99-earlier or a 2004- later. i am student with a budget. i haven't checked the dealers yet. just wonder if there is anything i should be looking for if i buy used? any major problems? any unencouraging upgrades? and what price i should be looking at i am look at spending anywhere for 15-10K. maybe for for a 2004.

how many Kms is good ?

are they tough to drive ? i am also a newbie at manual tranny.

the other cars i am looking at getting are 2003 sentra SER spec V and maybe an 98-01 accord coupe.

price is my largest concern along with KMs.

PS i live in the edmonton area and it would be nice to find somewhere local.
i know calgary has a 99 with 40K KM for $16K but i dunno if i will have to chance to head down there soon.

I am also interested in the legacy is there a sporty model then the GT ?
plz help me...

Heck, for $16K I would be tempted to sell my '01 RS with ~45K KM ...

Good luck in your search!

My buddy is looking at '99s, albeit they have more km, and he's looking at the $11k~$12k range.

They're out there, but pretty tough to find.

I thought the old Imprezas were built in Japan.

My '01 RS has been very reliable. No complaints here!

I was looking in one of those guides and all of the Imprezas, except the '99 had good ratings.

well the 99 has no LSD so i think the 00 are better. but i like both as long as the price is right and the Kms or miles

the 99 has no LSD, true... but it is a MAF based intake system so if someone plans on going turbo it's a little easier with the MAF rather than the MAP if you don't plan on doing anything insane. if you are planning on some insane it really doesn't matter which year since you'd have to have stand-alone management on it anyway.

My thoughts exactly ...

Prelude, your original post says "15-10K". You should probably clarify if you mean 10-15K or 5-10K. Big difference there.

The guys over at Rally are great. I don't know any of the salesmen but I do know that they always do their best.

I find their service department is solid. I haven't dealt with many salespeople.

Any particular reason you are looking for an older model RS and not the '00 and '01 models? I am looking to sell my car, just not actively.

You're one of the first people I have met who appreciate the rarity of the Sedona Red Pearl. Kudos to you!
