Default So I just finish cleaning up the 3 quarts of oil that spilled out of the engine in...

...the back of my dad's new work van.

Its a 15 passenger van that was converted to a work truck, which still has the factory carpet. Before Rogue and I put the engine in there and tied it down I layed two small pieces of plywood and put two layers of tarp down. While driving home on 495, everyone started to slow down fast. I heard some shifting in the back and just thought that it was some of the other things. About 5 min later I started to smell something. I pulled over opened the back doors and there it was all over the place. The tarps held most of it, but I've been cleaning since 4pm and its now 9:20pm. Luckily the carpet has a rubber lining. It did get through some of the edges and holes in the carpet for the rear seats. I still have to use the carpet extractor and get the oil in the carpet. It just sucks.

At least I have a new engine to play with.

oh snap!

Sorry, man... I thought I got it all in the back of the Outback a few months ago!

It WILL clean out easy. Purple Power or Simple Green or one of those cleaners... soak the carpet (easiest if you remove the affected area first, but not necessary) and just rinse/dry/vaccuum.

The carpet in the Outback went from gray to green/black... this stuff took it back to original-looking clean.

I guess we should have pulled that oil drain plug and tried to drain it That would have taken 2 minutes with the engine hanging in mid-air... dammit stupid stupid rogue!

I did tell my dad, he is cool about it. He was like "Next time just use more tarps and plastic."

LOL, don't worry about it. I was thinking of teh same thing on the way home with teh smell of oil. I'm picking up Simple Green tomorrow and the carpet extractor.

I'm sure your tarp absorbed most of it, at least... the studs for the tranny mount poked through the plastic cover in the Outback trunk, and the oil just drained nicely into the carpet/spare tire well

tough break Cj...once again I apologize for not being able to come down and help you out. It's 4am and I just finally got in for the night. So much stuff going on today between having to be places and stuff I needed to do.

I second the suggestion to use simple green, its amazing stuff.

I used simple green when I leaked a quart of oil behind my passenger seat.

Came out just fine.
