Question Perrin BCS and boost gain setting in utec..

So i've been running a boost gain setting of 48,.. but I installed the perrin bcs a couple weeks ago, and i'm thinking that I should change it to 50 or 51.

For those who have installed the perrin bcs, have you changed your boost gain settings?

Which mode did you hook it up, my guess is interruption based mode? Are you saying you are spiking with a setting of 48? If so you will get less spiking and an overall more stable boost with it set to 50 or above. Don't go too high as it really slows down the ramp up.

I use 45 and from the logs it seems stable...

correct interupt mode.

wow.. 45. Right now I'm trying to figure out if my boost spikes are from the gain setting, or just the way the vf39 "creeps" with catless exhausts. everyone talks about boost creep, but there are no clear guidlines for properly diagnosing boost creep. I wish I could see utec logs or something that shows what boost creep looks like on paper.

If you have the same boost value in your map from 3000-7000rpm but the boost goes a few psi higher at 5000ish rpm then it does at 4000ish rpm, chances are you have boost creep. One way to test would be to lower the boost value so you try and get wastegate pressure. If the boost stays at 9-12psi upto 5000rpm, then shoots upto the same boost it did when you had the higher boost value in your map at certain rpm ranges(like from 5000-5500rpm), chances are you have boost creep.

This looks like a good test. I will give it a try. Thanks.

Does the Perrin solenoid spool faster than the factory setup?

Last night I tried to test this... the road I tested it on was less then ideal.

05STI + utec + tuner pro + typhoon + catless TBE + perrin bcs + 93 v-power

In this run, I set all the boost values to 100. (which was interesing because I see I have some work to do in lower load sites) It's clearly higher at 5000rpms.

a properly set up interrupt type boost control system will spool faster.

the fancy grainger (aka perrin) is an interrupt type.

so is the $20 gm solenoid.

your call!

Yeh, looks like you have boost creep. Might not matter since the your normal boost looks higher then what it creeps to. Course the boost will probably go higher in higher gears and on colder days.

I've been around long enough to know about the GM solenoid. I still went with the perrin ebcs. I look at it this way... for 5 dollars more, I get support, directions, warranty, and all the hardware in a nice package.

perrin ebcs 75
resell value 50
--------------
net loss 25.

If you resell the Perrin BCS, how is it still controlling boost on your car?

I paid $5 less and I still have my GMBCS!

wait... maybe I didn't understand what you're trying to say

i'm not getting the point either. the gm is 1/4 the price and works just as well. it is an OEM part too, which i think most folks aren't getting the advantage of...
