Default 02 wrx into 00 rs, fuel pump question

I look at the wiring diagram for both 00 rs (pg 36) and 02 wrx (pg 67), about the fuel pump controller (R122) the wrx has but rs does not. I have been unable to come to a decision on how to address this. I don't know if it affects the wrx ecu or not but I would assume it does. Anyways I am looking for some ideas on how people have dealt with it.

In fact I just noticed the RS has a "Fuel Pump Relay Control" (B134 - 16) pin out on the ecu that the WRX does not have, instead it has the "Fuel Pump Controller" (B134 - 13, B136 - 15)

Thanks
-Eric

you need to research some more, the wrx uses a fuel pump controller because it has a variable fuel pressure. for diff situations the fuel is different pressures. you need this for the wrx ecu to work properly and delivery the right amount of fuel.

i would assume there is info already on the boards.

yea, but every thread and bit of info i can find no one mentions this part. My questions would then be is this an actual encased control module like the ecm is? I dont want to have to buy this thing because as long as the fuel pump is providing flow the regulator will controll how much fuel based on vacuum/boost the car is putting out. If it were that way where the fuel pump flow is variable that would defeat the purpose of the regulator.

Are you talking about the “Fuel Pump Relay” itself? If so both WRX and your platform will obviously have this component. You need to wire the “Fuel Pump Controller (WRX)” into your existing setup which takes a feed from the fuel pump relay and provides a variable output to the actual pump.

The controller is easy to wire, 1 wire supplies power from the relay, x2 wires for the ECU interface, and x2 wires to control the pump, plus x1 ground. That’s all there is to it…

Good luck…

Thank you yamarocket630 for detailed pics. This pic found in FAQ, throught this thread:

It is my understanding that this IS the regulator. W/o it, say good bye to gas milage and or may result in lean conditions. In EJ25 setup, this is incorperated in to the main ECM.

^^^Randoramma has it.

You are varying the duty cycle to the FPC which in turn varies the fuel pump output, so it is like an electronic FPR in a way on top of the mechanical. The ecu is designed for the two to work in conjunction with one another so if one component is missing it is not going to be able to calculate proper fueling, at least thats how i would think of it.
