Default Intake and UTEC tuning

I'm interested in getting a Blitz SUS intake but have heard many stories of how aftermarket intakes lean out the A/F ratio. I currently have a turboback exhaust, UTEC, stock intercooler, and the stock bypass valve. With proper UTEC tuning, would it be possible to not run lean with an aftermarket intake, such as the Blitz SUS? If so would there still be gains in power?

With a proper tune....almost anything is possible.

Contact Jarrad at PDX (PDXTuning here on NASIOC)...he tuned mine with a custom AEM shortram and it runs great.

I've heard of people saying that there were gains from aftermarket intakes, course they were selling them. The general concensous from what I've seen is that the stock intake is fine upto a given power level(something like 300+whp), and aftermarket intakes won't help performance if you're under that power level. The stock filter is also said to keep the air going into the engine much cleaner and cooler then something like a blitz sus.

peace

concerning the same thing... am I safe to run a base map from turboxs on my STI with a typhoon?
I know the base maps are supposed to be really rich and the typhoon isn't supposed to lean out the airflow much... no access to wideband at the moment, so I have to ask, lol.

It's hard to say because every car is slightly different. The Stage II base map on my STi (MY04) was super rich. I was seeing A/F in the high 9's in the middle RPM and low 10's up top.

i looked at the stage 1 and stage 2 basemaps yesterday, and there really aren't a lot of differences between then. Some, but I'd say 10% of the values are different.
