Default Cobb AP: Anyone running HWG just for extra performance?

I'm hitting good boost with the regular Stage2 map when I run HWG map I seem to hit the same boost but faster and more violent!!

I was wondering if anyone else thought the same!

I have an 05 STI with TBE, intake, BOV, and AP stg2 93 oct. I ran the stg2 hwg and was hitting 18.3psi in 3rd all the way to red line. I dont know what the true psi was because the AP will only read up to 18.3psi. It was cool, but kind of scary, went back to stg2 93oct. I would like to know if running the hwg map is safe or not?

Bad mojo I'd say. Cobb suggests not running the HWG maps unless you are completly unable to hit target boost with the regular map. I'd suspect you are overboosting or spiking with the HWG map. If not then you may be fine. I'm haven't run the HWG map and I'm not sure if the map will deal with the extra boost sooner. Actual values would help.

cobb set the target boost at 15.8 for a reason...because there is only so far the stock turbo is good for. They didn't do it to limit just for fun!

you are just blowing more hot air...

I think Cobb says something to the effect of if you are using the HWG just to increase boost don't do it because it could result in spiking. But if you are not spiking or running excessive boost it should be fine as the fuel should be mapped to the boost.

Right, but what if one is not spiking? What if its only spooling better?

I think you should be fine, it's spooling faster because the wastegate is staying closed longer. If no spiking, and you're hitting target boost levels, and no PTFB, no worries

02 wagon w/4EAT. I am running stg.2, 1.20 93 oct. base. Switched from same realtime to HWG 3 wks. ago. Car pulls stronger, boost around 16.5-17 lbs. No sighn of Knock. I had tightened w/g rod 1 full turn last year, and that helped to. I run Shell 93.

Yeah, I recently decided to give it a go and its hitting target boost (no higher) faster and seems to be running very well. I'm using the Stg 2 91 Oct as the base with the HWG Stg. 2 01 Oct over as a realtime map.

Does anyone know if you can load the HWG v1.13 maps that are currently on the Cobb download site with the v1.4 map manager or do you need to upgrade the map manager to v1.5 or v1.6?
Thnx - 2Hip

Pretty sure Cobb said you had to update the manager.

Update: today I ditched the HWG map, I noticed I was making closer to 17 psi at WOT....it was spooling very well and running well, especially with that extra 1psi of boost, but its not supposed to boost to that, so in the interest of safety, I switched back to the Stg 2 V1.22 91 oct.

Oh well.

I have been running the HWTG Stage 2 91 octane map for about a month now and love it!!!!
17.5 psi of fun
My car breathes very easy tho:
Injen Up pipe, x over pipe, Short ram
Spearco IC, Cobb TBE
i was thinking of running the Injen intake base map and then the real time HWTG map, any thoughts????

Well, the first that comes to mind is that you shouldn't be overboosting, you're running an intake with the wrong map (while overboosting) which means your A/F's are surely off. I would suggest ditching the HWG map as I did because I was overboosting as well. And certianly if you're keeping the intake, ditch the map and use the right one.

A: 17.5psi is for all intents and purposes out of the efficiency range of the stock turbo.

C: If you must use an intake w/ AP, you should definitely be using the Injen map. The other maps are NOT certified for use with an intake.

Regarding the Injen map:

I mean, you're balls-deep in your 05 and not even giving it a reach-around man!!

Give it a fighting chance and at least check out what you're doing before you blow the thing up!
