Sounds fishy to me... The dealership should have all of the info on you they need. Maybe someone is fishing for VINs. If you have a car's VIN number you can make copies of their keys. If they happen to see the VIN belongs to a nice car, they may show up at your house with the keys and take your car.

You may also want to try a reverse lookup of the phone number on a site like whitepages.com

If you call the number, I bet they are going to try to sell you on some kind of program for an extended service agreement where they let you know about recalls or TSB info. (that you can get for free anyway). I don't think it is the Subaru extended service thing - but an aftermarket ploy.

that is Gresham's phone number.

what you have there is a cheesy, horrible advertising ploy.

there are no recalls out from Subaru right now

there are no new TSB's...

WHAT they want you do is call ....
so "maybe" they can talk you into coming in for a safety inspection
"maybe" they can get you in for service...

personally i think that's an awful advertising scam
let's "scare" the customer into calling us.

i assure you, there are no new recalls or TSB's out.

I think this type of advertisement should be brought to SOA's attention. Makes Subaru look bad and spreads unnessesary rumors.

Every recall notice I've ever seen states the reason they believe your vehicle is included in the recall...I say BOGUS as well!

Actually there is a new TSB for the rear differential noise.

http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/disp...p?doc_id=79712

but I doubt that postcard has anything to do with it.

I just bought a 02 WRX wagon and the dealer was telling me about the drivers side seat bolt recall. It was put in late April I think.

If you really want to know for sure just call the dealer.

Well, I dont think I will call, if there is no actual recall. If anyone wants to use the images above to file a complaint or anything feel free. I would but dont have the spare time. Thanks for the replies!

OBTW...Jamie, thank you for the Fog Light Covers I ordered from your store...they are great, shipping was great, price, everything! Although I am just waiting for the day I go to my car and find them gone, since they are so easy to pop off. I guess its time for a better (than factory) alarm huH!

I just called the # and it is a dealership and the girl transferred me to the service dept. He said that he needs the last 4 on my VIN#. I told him that I didnt have it and he that all cars have recalls.

I think its to get your business in the dealership so they can get paid for warrenty work.

They can't do anything with the last 4 of your vin. The last 8 will determine your car, but the last 4 are useless to us.

Not that we have to worry. A lot of SOA people read this board. (Know thy enemy) I am sure some people are already looking into it. Now if someone could just send a link to the right state attorney general, that should do it.

PS: Not saying Subaru is the enemy, but that they look for those "I am going to take it back to stock and see if they will cover it" threads.

Of course you can see that they covered themselves pretty well. It doesn't say "your subaru has been recalled"

It basically just say "call us and we can tell you IF your subaru is involved in a recall"

They're just being good samaritans and blanket mailing to all subie owners.

It is deceptive, but clearly still legal.

How do I get this fixed? Do I just go to dealership and say "my rear diff is really noisy, is there a fix?" cause you know... My rear diff does have that whining sound.
