Talking learning to tune

just a quik ?

for all those out there who have been trained in the ways of tuning, and for those who who have taught themselves and are relatively proficient, what resources, reference materials, DIY books, general engine tuning books, or any other materials did you guys learn to be able to pick up the knowlegde it takes to tune a car effectively?

I am currently at an automotive training school, so i have a pretty good resource as far as our engine performance teachers, but i can only take so much of their time and i will not be in school forever. Unfortunatly i will not be able to take either the engine performance or advanced engine performance classes, but i have had the electrical 1 and 2 classes so i have some electrical knowledge. My goal in tuning is to be able to work out a few more hp and still keep my cars on the safe side of operation, and to be able to do these things confidently...

any help at all with this problem would be great, and personal experiences that you all have had would also be helpfull...

p.s. i have been known to do things the hard way, like instead of swapping a 2.2 into 1.8 powered wagon, im looking to make between 150-200 hp w/ some kind of frankenstin 1.8/2.2 turbo combo... if seen alot of ppl do this with positive results but obviously its not the easiest way to go...

... and making power the harder way is always more challenging and interesting.
