Do you all think this is rather spendy for these?

Yeah, you're definitely getting ripped off. At MSRP + destination, a 2JD 2002 WRX Sedan Auto comes out to $25520.

Many people here have reported getting their's for much lower than MSRP. I placed an order for a 2JC 2002 WRX Sedan 5 speed + options and got a decent deal at $1500 below MSRP.

I'd recommend shopping around to find other dealers.

Default Ripped a new one...

Way too much gouging there! Not even near MSRP, but way over. Go elsewhere, then drive it back to that dealer to show them how much ya saved.

Isn't destination charge included in the invoice price? I believe that is a scam that dealerships do to add another 500 to your purchase price.

YEah I live in alaska and it really sucks to buy a car here. The subaru dealership here sells more subarus per capita than any other dealership. so they jack prices really high.. I mean they have sold like 40 wrx's... they will not even come DOWN on the price at all.. sigh

They will install mods thought if I ask them too hehehe...

So any good suggestions as to where I might be able to buy a car online? I have e-mailed subaru dealerships all over seattle in an effort to find a 2.5 RS in silver..

Links Helpful!

Yeah the WRX price is high. The 2.5RS one isn't bad though.

I got taken on my car, somewhat, but... not too bad, really.

2000 2.5RS, loaded it up. Performance gauge pack, extended armrest, differential protector, rubber floormats and aftermarket leather. The leather is $1,000... Add everything else up (I got a lot of options, except for automatic trans., and stereo) and I probably got a good couple grand worth.

I ended up paying a bit over $21,000 for mine. The dealer did some pretty shady stuff at the time but it kinda worked out...

While it is still warm perhaps a dealer in the lower 48 states has a car at a much lower price to the point where you could save money just traveling to the dealer in person, then drive it home.

Buy it in Seattle and drive back up. Make a trip... bonding time with your new car.

A buddy of mine called last night to say his old roommate went out and bought a WRX. Before stepping foot in the dealership he had never heard of the WRX, but he saw it sitting there all nice and pretty, and he wrote a check. I asked if he paid too much... ok. A guy who didn't do pricing research, didn't know what he was getting into, but he only paid $24k +tax and license. There ARE dealerships willing to wheel and deal down here. I'd say $4000 would be worth the hassle of flying down and driving back up.

If you're interested in doing something like that, talk to Joe Spitz at Carter Subaru in Seattle. I'm pretty sure either he or somebody from the area would be happy to drive to the airport to pick you up.

for 28k, I will get you a wrx and ship it up to alaska. You can probably buy one here in lower states and have it shipped for less than that.

Question

Why not drive down to canada and pick one up? They are cheaper here, the exchange rate will explain away the large MSRP. Being able to prove you don't live in BC means you don't have to pay the provincial sales tax of 7% then at the end of the year you can get your GST back that another 7% tax saved. The car is identical except for minor options such as the heated seats. and I don't think duty on a car is all that bad when compaired to the tax. Plus it's illegal for a dealer to mark up the price in canada. MSRP is final, but you can argue for lower at times. Off hand I know of dealerships from north to south in Prince George, 100 milehouse, then vancouver. One in nanaimo has a white sedan, victoria had a silver one last time I was there 2 months ago not sure if it's 5 speed or not. The market demand is there, but the economy isn't great so dealers are willing to negotiate lately. This was my plan when I was looking for work in the states. Move there then come back to buy the car.

Only problem with you bloody Canadians is your foul habit of making the manufacturers put metric speedo/odos in the cars.

Your problem pal , is that you live in the archaic times of the imp. measurement, get with the times man. I was against the metric system when it was introduced here, but now I love it, everything is divisible by 10's :

Have a Nice Day?

Man... take a pill. I was just messing around. I actually like the metric system better too. I have no concept of how long it would take to walk a km, but I think it's a better system.

FYI There are a lot of local car dealerships that drive up to Canada and buy new cars up there, drive/truck them back here, replace the instrument cluster, and sell them as used for a lot more than they are worth.
For example:
Chevy dealer in Bellevue was importing Corvettes and selling base models for over $65kUSD
Honda dealers were importing Odessys and selling them for about $7000 over MSRP
Kirkland Chrysler had several PT Cruisers for sale in the $30-35k range.

It would be better if they didn't have to rip the dashboard apart to change parts. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth knowing that things were switched. Who knows if the mileage is correct. Plus things removed and replaced have a greater probability of rattle/squeaking.

My little poke at the metric system was a neighborly jest. Nothing serious.

It is very easy to take people out of context on the net as you cannot hear the tone of voice or see the facial expressions at the time the message is uttered.

Oh! by the way, I am taking 3 pills a day to make me more tolerant of others - sometimes it doesn't work, depends on
who/ how my button get's pushed.

I apologise for my outburst, and will switch sites until I feel more rational next time.

No sweat. The smiley at the end was supposed to set the tone, as in the 'take a pill' comment. Most things I keep lighthearted here. Most.
