Default STI Turbo on a 99-01 RS

Alright guys, I don't have a car yet, but my plan is to buy a 99-01 RS sometime during the summer. I am just trying the get an idea of what I want to do. But I have a question about a turbo.

My friend has an STI and is putting a new turbo on his car, he told me that I could get his stick turbo for cheap, my question is, is it possible to throw the STI turbo on an RS? I would plan on buying an STI topmount for it also.

Or is there a way to get an EJ20 without a turbo and than throw the STI turbo on that?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I guess renaming the forums still hasn't cleared up the confusion...

Try searching the AFI forum about boosting your car as is. And Try searching the conversions forum for engine swaps. And I reiterate, search. If you post this questions without doing so, you will get heavily flamed. Not everyone around here is as helpful as I with the noobs...

to answer briefly...

Q1: is it possible to throw the STi turbo on an RS. Sure, it's possible. but you're oversimplifying. it's going to take a lot more than just a turbo and IC to make it work. Think bigger injectors, a lot of new plumbing, new oil lines, engine management, hopefully a stronger block with upgraded internals, etc. etc. etc.

Q2: is there a way to get an EJ20 without a turbo and throw the STi turbo on that? Yes, there is. But again, it's not that simple.

Remember, anything's possible with the correct planning, designing, and most importantly, a big fat wallet. Good luck searching.

remember that you will need the exhaust manifolds, cross pipe
and the up-pipe..might as well get the down pipe too.

you'd be tter off getting a usdm wrx motor and wiring harness..
hope you like doing electrical work...

Well said.... Converting my SVX to a manual was rather challenging, not to mention EXPENSIVE!!!... So was my Suspension conversion.... But just as "projectrally" said, with enough money and planning, anything is possible.... The answers to your questions aren't just simple "Yes' or "No" answers. They would require us to get into the "how-too's".... Quite frankly, I don't think there is anyone here that is gonna go through all that discribing over the internet.... All I can say is, do the research, plan, and then proceed... It is not going to be easy so don't expect it to be done quickly and work perfectly....

Oh no not this again....Sorry to be so rude, but the previous posters are correct. You need to do so much more research than asking a couple of questions on this forum. It is not recomended that you do what you are talking about unless you have a ton of bank and another car since you will most likely destroy the innocent RS. Love it for what it is, not what you want it to be.

I loved my old RS, but then traded up to a car that was much more tuner friendly. (04 wrx) I went through the same power withdrawl that you are suffering now my friend, but there is no cheap way to the promise land with that car.
