Default So who would actually be interested in one of these if it actually had some power

Ya know, ability to tow a race prep'd STI on a trailer. Not a huge amount, but enough to make it a worthwhile car to people like me looking for a tow auto with some daily drivability.

How much can these tow? I'd love to convince my mom to replace the Ford Explorer (then we would be an all-Subaru family ), but we need it to tow the boat.

I'd definitely want more torque to be interested. An MT would be pretty essential too. Oh and a firmer suspension too. Basically a GT or STi model

3500lbs when properly equipped according to the website.

I sat in one again last night...very nice interior. Almost enough to make me forget about what the front looks like.

Sounds like it needs a small blower, mabye 5psi, to give it enough power to tow

hurry up subaru, time for a blown h6!

The issue with the Tribeca isn't the amount of power, but the frame itself to support the towing of the weight. And it doesn't have that. It's still a unibody. To add frame stiffness, you'll have to add weight and incorporate a major re-design for something that will be able to handle some serious weight safely (like 5K+ lbs). Sure a race car can be anywhere from 2K to 3K lbs, then add in a trailer (hopefully a lightweight aluminum one) and you'll have something close... but you don't want to constantly be near the limit of the towing capacity, if they did up it.

They'll also have to upgrade the brakes, and add a tranny cooler.

I took one out this past weekend and I liked it. A-LOT. Nice low end grunt... the only thing I can say bad about it is I throught it would have been quieter. I can hear the engine whining away in the mid/high rpms.

But it sure felt nice and planted.

Thanks KC for the enlightenment on towing. Didn't really think about that. I guess I will have to go with a classic "truck" to handle my tow duties.

The tranny cooler is part of the towing package. Brakes could be upgraded too. But the frame issue is the killer.
