Default Is there any way to find out if the WRX is the most crashed "new" car this year?

Just want to know if anyone is keeping these records. The crash rates are kinda high since the car came out last February.

Maybe AAA has a database. Hmmm....

I'd really like to see some numbers too, other makes, models, years, etc. percentages at that.

"need more input"... before I start worrying about insurance rates.

Anyone total a wrx WAGON yet?

edit:
Its going to be hard to tell this early in the game, but I'm sure someone has numbers somewhere. here's some interesting stuff I've found:
http://www.ohioinsurance.org/factboo...chapter_2b.htm
nhtsa and icbc might be places to do some reading:
http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/

Kids driving a car thats too powerful and tuned to drift? I dont see a problem with that. Do you see a problem with that? I certainly dont. I wonder why people are crashing them.

After all... they DID pass the state requirements to become licensed drivers. They must be fine drivers. It must be the wieght ratios of the WRX, or perhaps the 20mm sway bar, or the anitlock brake sensors going over a bump, cause those fail all the time. Especially the four channel, four sensor ones.

I fart in your general direction.

State Farm insurance is not going to differentiate the wagon from the sedan. I'd imagine most companies won't given how few there will be on the road.

Default Subaru Crashes

IMHO I reckon it is because the younger drivers think that because the "Subaru is one of the safest cars" on the road, they are under the impression that they can "push" it as hard as they like.

That is when things go wrong......look at the World Rally X drivers they even bend'm.

I don't believe that other drivers should have to pay for mistakes made by these people, in the form of higher Insurance Premiums.

Here where I live, in this City of 250,000, 7 WRX's were totalled (written off beyond repair) for 2000.
I wanted to buy a WRX, but on my Rating 1 Insurance it was going to cost me $A1,200 p/y ($US2,400), and it was only because of the high rate of attrition of the WRX's alone.

I agree. But that's exactly what insurance is... everyone paying for a few people's mistakes.

It's also worth remembering that I-Club members are over-represented by younger drivers into high performance mods and pushing the car to its limits. We can easily get the impression that there are a lot of crashes by the posts here. For every I-Club member there are probably dozens of Subie owners who never exceed the speed limit. So how do we get them to join I-Club, and mod their Subie?

Are you serious? Nobody flamed younger drivers, they just said they get in more accidents.
My personal theory on why so many WRXs have been rolled is that they are so ugly, the road repels them.

Speaking of totalled cars. Is there any way to find out if there are wrecks in your local area so you can scavenge them for parts?

I'd like a set of RS wheels and that might be an easy way to find some!

There is a national parts locator magazine called... The Locator. Used to be that you had to have a salvage license to subscribe to it. Its on the Web now, but I haven't been there in a long time.
Now most rebuilders use a dedicated computer system to find and sell the parts they need.

One of the best ways is to get to know some of the people that rebuild the wrecks. They are businessmen and will keep an ear to the ground if they know you want something.

Default Accidents happen...

Well, if we are judging by i-club reports of crashes, with the amount of WRX's on the road w/o figuring the folks who have one and do not post here, I'd say that if we're not #1 in crashes, we're a close 2nd.
It may depend on what car we've had previously. It could be that the high performance tires that were installed replacing the stock (crappy) re-92's give a over confidence feeling in the handling department.
Another thing to keep in mind is: was it the driver of the WRX's fault in the 1st place?

LOL @Iowannaski.. I don't agree with you about the looks but I must admit I did laugh when I read your comment about the road repelling them. As for the car's handing it does spook me. I'm came out of a 4x4 truck and am taking my time learning how to drive this car. I found out within 100 miles I need to slow down and adjust my driving to suit the car. It's not going to adjust to me without mod's.

I don't think we are the number one wrecked car in volume, with such low production run of 10,000 (are there more Subaru?), but by percent, I think we are screwed.
