MY00 OBS Blowing Taillights Every Few Weeks
Hello,
Appologies for the cross-post. I also put this under General earlier, where I thought I might get the most views. My fiance and I both have MY2000 OBS (Awww... His n Hers). I noticed when she bought the car new that one or both tail lights would burn out every few months. As time has passed, the issue has gotten progressively worse. At this point, both tail lights burn out within a week or two after replacing the bulbs. I'm replacing them with NAPA bulbs, which have worked fine for me on any other car I've used them on.I've replaced my taillights once over the past three years. I'm taking a wild stab at it, but I'd have to guess that the car has an electrical problem that seems to be worsening. I'm pretty sure of a few things: 1. The source may be very time consuming to locate. 2. As the problem gets worse, it may possible affect other aspects of the car. 3. Unless its something blatantly obvious like a voltage regulator, it will probably be expensive to repair. My questions: 1. Any ideas on obvious things to look for? 2. Anyone else reading this who has experienced similar issues care to comment? 3. Should we consider trading the car in? 4. I haven't looked at a wiring diagram, but I'm wondering if this problem will eventually begin to affect other parts of the electrical system on the car (Radio, Wipers, Etc.)? Thanks, Mark

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running, it should not be more than 14.5V max. If it's higher this can cause frequent bulb failure although I'd expect it to affect other bulbs and not just the tailights.

Are you sure the lamps are actually blown, and it's not just a loose socket/loose wiring?
