Default sti pink springs and gr-2 struts

I have searched but it seems like everyone has prodrive springs with these struts. Will they work? I have a wagon and see a guy on ebay selling the gr-2 struts for $229. The description says, " box a set of 4 ( 2 334304-334305 front struts, 2 334306-334307 Rear ) KYB GR-2 shocks to fit 2002 AND 2003 Subaru WRX all models". I thought the wagon used different part numbers.

I'm assuming you're asking about the "JDM" STi pink springs for '04 and newer STi (the ones with 257/217 spring rates). Because those are intended for '04 and newer Imprezas, the rear springs will only work with the '04 and newer strut top design.

If you want to use GR-2s for 2002-2003 Imprezas with the STi ping springs, you'll need '04+ rear strut tops (and some washers for the "notch" in the top of the older design strut rod). I'm not so sure it's worth the trouble for GR-2s though.

I would bet the spring rates will kill the GR-2's.

If you are talking about JDM STi pinks (252/217 spring rates, IIRC), there is no way that GR-2's will be able to handle that stiff of a spring for too long. GR-2s are mild upgrades to your stock struts, with about 10-15% more damping. STi pinks are a 50% or greater increase in spring rates over a stock WRX. At the very least, you need AGXes to handle that stiff of a spring.

If you are talking about the USDM pinks, which IIRC have spring rates north of 200 lbs/in in the front, I still think that the GR-2s would be outmatched.

Basically, the ride might be acceptable for a very short time, but as the struts wear, you'll be bouncing all over the place before long due to insufficient damping.

BTW, you should watch the classifieds if you're looking for a good cheap upgrade. There was a guy selling almost new AGXes and Prodrives pretty recently for <$400. Better yet, maybe you could find some STi takeoffs.

I got kyb agx for $375 + another $7 I think it was from a guy in socal advertizing on ebay with free shipping. they are 4 spot adjustable. g2-s are ok but you might out grow them fast. I think he said something about gc front struts. just ask him. Because wrx sedan strut have bigger knuckle ears. That can be corrected with camber bolts I am told.

Default thanks

Thanks for the imput. I also contacted a very knowledgable vendor and he said the GR-2 struts would have no problem with the pinks and would wear no faster than the AGX strut. He said Koni was the best and could have probably talked me into them but he listened to my needs and said I would be happy with the performance of the non adj gr2. That is what I bought.

I hope they work out for you, but I will maintain that a significant spring rate increase should be matched by a significant damping rate increase - not a mild damping rate increase. Let us know how things go, because if the knowledgable vendor is right, we'll all save hella cash around here.
