Question 2.5" downpipe, 400whp and EWG

It is difficult for me to get parts for my STi at my present location (APO). An example being that I cannot get a Helix downpipe through the mail because the box is too big.

I see two downpipes that are probably shippable because they are two piece - Mad Dad Metal V2.0 and the Stromung 2.5" catted short downpipe.

Here's the real question - I plan on running an external wastegate setup with either an SZ49 or an FP Green. It seems to me that using a 2.5" downpipe with a single cat such as the Stromung won't be that much of a flow hit if any because the wastegate flow will not pass through the first 12-16" of downpipe as it does with an internal wastegate. Also I have a JIC505 Ti catback which tapers to 2.5" at the midpipe so staying 2.5" on the downpipe eliminates a transition (3"-2.5"-3").

Could I get 400whp with this setup, all other things being equal ( injectors, EM, FMIC, etc...)?

Thanks all,

why don't you contact a vendor to see if you can get a nice 3" system with the pipes cut to fit in smaller boxes. do you have anyone that can weld them together when you receive them?

pde makes one with a removable cat/test pipe.

i think there's ways around you're 2.5inch problem.

A Random Tech Downpipe comes in two pieces, and is a 3" should fit the bill the cat section is in the midpipe.

Thanks but no thanks - those guys have never found an animated .gif they didn't like. Surfing that site is like walking through a third world market or answering the phone at dinner time...

I am leaning towards the Random Tech Downpipe because the PDE is pretty expensive for what you get (there are no moving parts, no exotic materials and the flange on the removable cat looks under-engineered and heavy).

the tuboxs is a shorty, but you don't need a bellmouth, do you even need a split downpipe?

I'll put another vote in for the random tech pipe... It's two-piece, 3", bellmouth, and just plain sexy. You can order it with either of the two sections catless... so I'd recommend going with a catless first section to make it easier to plumb in your EWG.

Only problem is that it's kinda pricey.
