Default De-badging

Hi, i was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me the process in removing the badges. I know some of the dealer stuff can be taken off with a heat gun, but my understanding is that the factory badges are tougher. I have an 04 turbo and i want to remove the AWD and dealer badges that are on the right, and try to find on E-bay a Turbo badge (maybe porsche) to put on. I dont feel like the red surround on the baja badge is enough. I figure there was probably a post b4 asking this, so if you could just point me to it, or a website, or hook me up with some nice directions, id be greatly appreciative.

Dan, I would definatally not advise you to take off the AWD badge from it. Just in case you need it towed, how is the tow truck going to know if you are not there. Some times they are the dumest people on the road. I know that I would always be there for it in my mind, but what happens if it gets towed w/out your knolage. With out the badge, it would most likely get towed with only 2 wheels off the ground and mess up your Precious. As for me, I also thought that the red wasn't enough. Looksee what I did: http://wgz.org/bmeyer/pic/Subaru/baj...adge_1_big.htm. or for bandwith challanged: http://wgz.org/bmeyer/pic/Subaru/baj...ge_1_small.htm.

But I have been thinking of making a change. I was thinking of taking it off and getting a 2.5xt badge from the forester and puting it on. If I do, you could have the one that I take off free + shipping. After installing the trubo badge I think that the porsche badge was a little big and then knotised that the VW bug turbo badge was a closer script to the baja one than the porsche one and the size is smaller and I think it would look better.

definately do not remove the awd badge...all others are fair game but the awd badge serves as a warning not just advertising.

as far as removing the other badges and process of it..there are many threads about this topic in the exterior/interior modifications forum as well as the newb forum. some suggest sliding a thin string like material such as dental floss or fishing line between the emblem and the body and then using a gentle sawing motion to cut the foam backing that attaches some emblems to the body. afterwards use some adhesive cleaner such as goo gone to remove the left over glue/foam from the body. also some badges dont have foam adhesive behind them but rather metal or plastic pins that stab into the body. the string method can work here as well but you need to pull outward from the body instead of sawing thru it once the string slides in between and finds a pin. also be careful if you want to save the badges and it use pins to attatch. dont pull on the emblem from the middle or the edge as you will snap it in pieces rather make sure your string is up agianst a pin before you tug.

hope this helps

I have seen some baja's with the S U B A R U removed and it has 2 holes behind the u and the r and no retaining clips according to those owners.

Default Body-color badging

I've seen a few cars with body-colores badging that looked pretty cool...one alternative to removing them.

I took all the badges off except the "Baja" logo. It's easy to do. Heat the badges with a hair dryer, then slide a length of dental floss behind the badge and work it down. It's not hard to do.

There are two dimples behind the U and R, which you can fill in or leave as is.

I painted the SUBARU black to match my car and I'm going to reinstall those when I get around to it.

Whether you leave or remove the AWD is a personal decision and personally, it don't think it makes a difference. For what it's worth there is an AWD logo right next to the gear shift, which is where it might matter (I still don't think it does).

I have no objection and also respect your decision of putting a turbo badge on your BAJA, heck, the other day I saw a late model AWD forerunner with a porsche turbo badge (kind funky, I thought).
I just want to know why you would want to make it obvious? Don't you like the sleeper status? I think removing all the badges is better but that is just my opinion.
Anyway, good luck removing it and it looks like there are a lot of smart advices here that will help you achieve you goal.

Thanks for all the responses, and that is what i had heard, i was just a lil skeptical when i had heard about dental floss from my friend. Also, what VW model has the turbo badge you were interested in, because i agree, the porshe badge is a lil too big. As for the "sleeper" status, it is because no one even thinks about trying to race because they don't take it seriously. Even with a turbo badge, i still think the pickup truck baja would count as a sleeper.

Cool Baja logo

Any suggestion for the best way to remove the Baja Logo on the tail gate? Heat gun and dental floss? Does removing the Baja logo leave any holes?
Thanks, BB

that'd actually be kind of cool, but with a turbo or "t" marking as well.

As far as the towing thing goes... If your car gets towed without your consent and they dont lift all your wheels, congrats on your free new diff courtesy of the towing company.

You'd think that the guys who work at the towing company would know that all new Subarus are AWD. Especially since they deal with just about every kind of car. I know, there are probably some who aren't exactly the brightest bulb in the box.

Talking Thanks

Thanks for the details, and the photos!, I definately will remove the Baja logo. May be the AWD too? I think the AWD logos on both sides is good enough for the first time tow truck drivers?
