Default Legacy exhaust options

I know of the Stromung exhaust for my car, but I'm looking for something similar with a 2.25" diameter, but not as loud as
the Stromung. I've heard the STi exhaust with 2.25" midpipe on an RS and would like something similar for my car. Would consider B4 exhaust take off as well if it is the right diameter. Does anyone know if the B4 is similar in size I.E. 2.25" I'm just curious what's out there before I buy anything.

Thanks!

subette - Brullen systems are made to your acoustic preference.

One thing that will happen with the twin tips that close to the fender is the heat will ripple and distort the fender material. It has happened to my MY00 Legacy twin-tip Stromung, and its tips are further from the bumper than that Brullen.

Hi There,

Over 15000 KM with this exhaust and 12 AutoX's + 2 Pro Solo's + 1 Track day. No ripples or melted bumper material.

The picture is actually quite deceiving, there is a 1.0" air gap between the muffler and the rear bumper. You just can't see it on this picture.

Hope this helps.

Hopefully subette will get a B4 or Blitzen rear bumper before putting on exhaust.

I wouldn't mind seeing more pics from different angles of that exhaust on a '00-'02 Legacy. Also would like to see it in the smallest single tip size you have (if possible).

Car looks good.

Does anyone have the single tip Brullen yet? Specifically on a Legacy, but I haven't seen any pics of it installed yet.

Thanks,

Jon

Stromung is too loud, have heard it on RS's

subette is just going for the flow improvment and better sound, but very soft a subtle (Like STi).

Default Too loud?

It is no louder than the other exhasts you are talking about. I don't notice a difference unless all my windows are rolled down. I don't know how they sound on an RS but it is not loud on a Legacy. I did not want a loud exhast either so the Stomung was the right choice. As far as power increase; I noticed much improvement in 5th gear on the highway. It seems to have more peep at high speeds.

HIHO - reason why your's isn't "loud" is b/c you only have a muffler section. Subette & Omahasubaru wants a full cat-back unit. The only performance cat-back to provide this would be a Brullen system.

Subette,
The Rallispec system I have is pretty quiet. The work is first rate and installation is a snap. if you want to see some pics go here Rallispec pics Nice polished, full stainless steel catback system.

Ferretboy-
About how much did your exhaust cost and where did you get it from? Is there a website I can go to?

Thanks

Default Universals?

I went out witha friend of mine to a local performance shop, and he got a universal muffler form OBX for his 95 Eclipse GS. The thing that bothered me is it only cost him $115, vice a strommung for over $300. Why are the mufflers that seem to be made specifically made for subarus so expensive, and what would be wrong with getting a universal (besides the look and sound)? Are there any performance issues?

Default Back pressure

There is no such thing as a universal muffler. All cars have different back pressure, displacement, etc. Get one made for your car. It might cost more but why would you put cheap parts on one of your best investments. If you do it right the first time you will be much happier.

Smile

Thats how I feel about, which is why I'll go with the strommung. It's just dis-heartening to see all these common imports (ie Honda and DSM) that have such a large variety of options when it comes to aftermarket parts, and they are so cheap. In the end, quality coems with a price, and I'm willing to pay for it

Just ordered the STi catback unit for my 98 GT wagon. Haven't gotten it yet, but i'll post about it in a few weeks when it shows up. The STi is super-expensive (over $700) , but it's the real McDeal and It'll be quite unique. Nothing less than the best for my Legacy.

Please do tell more!

Tell me more about this STi exhaust.
Sizes, looks, fitment.

Is it the one off of the STi site with the pink coated piping?

I wonder if it is too big for the N/A 2.5 and if it is cat back. Piping on the B4 EJ20TT is much different than our US EJ25 motors, keep that in mind.

I bought this exhaust from TRi Tuning, you can see it listed on thier website. I've actually never seen it in person, but I repeatedly asked him if it was specifically appropriate for the 1998 2.5GT WAGON (for the same reasons you mentioned) and he repeatedly said yes. It's being shipped directly from Japan, so it should be here the week after next sometime. It's a full stainless-steel cat-back unit. From what I've heard, the exhaust note is about 25% louder than stock and sounds really sweet (I do NOT want a rally-car!!!). Like I said, when I get it put on, I'll post about it. I also ordered the STi Front strut-tower bar, rear sway bar (19mm) a K&N filter and two STI carbon emblems. (so people know what's up). My goals for the car are to make it as STi as possible. I imagine I'll be bankrupt in a van down by the river by the end of the year.

Cool.. Keep me posted.

I went STi with my RS

STi suspension and exhaust (needed a custom midpipe BTW) among other items.

Will you be able to post pics once installed and possible sound files?

Question ???

Any news? Also wondering if anyone can help me obtain a take off B4 exhaust, I have a feeling this might work nicely.
