hey guys-
so I think that I've found an ej18 that I might be able to get the heads for rather cheap. I was thinking that I might rebuild the heads a bit and put them on my impreza's 2.2 for a higher compression engine just to tie mt more power desires over until I can finance a motor swap. It has been said that this swap would give me somewhere in the range of 11.0:1 compression and maybe 160hp. What do you guys think? Do you think that if I run premium at all times it would be a safe and stable engine? Would the ecu like this or am I planing a crappy idling, backfiring, engine that would just blow after a few months? Any info would be helpfull guys.

Yes it works. Theres a at my dealership that a few guys put together that is a 2.2 block with 1.8 heads. It wont be 160hp though.

does 11.0:1 sound right though? will it be that high? is that going to be too high of comp for the engine to be safe? will the ej18's cam sensor work? I have a lot of questions i know, but any info is appreciated as this is something that I am seriously considering... thanks guys

so i did a little research, I'm a mechanical engine is training so I used some tricks from that, i found an equation and at 11.0:1 I found a 8.6% increase in power roughly...148hp....not really worth all the work when I could prob just get that from removing my cats..thaks anyway guys
{[(new ratio^.4)/(old ratio^.4)]-1}x100= percent of change by the way |

I'll bet the big difference wouldn't be in peak power but the amount of torque generated at lower revs. The car would feel a lot faster in normal driving than the 148 HP peak would lead you to believe. That said, an EJ25 swap would be less trouble in the long run, feel even better and you could still run regular gas.
