Question Calling all exhaust experts..

I am installing a catless 3" turbo back exhaust. My car is stock.(2004 wrx) Will my check engine light go on? Do I need any other items to eliminate check engine lights? I've seen so many products but are they neccessary? I would appreciate the feedback. Thank you

Yes you will get a CEL. Do the mechanical fix to stop the CEL.

Also you may want to get EM really soon since the 04+ ECU doesn't like TBEs much with the stock settings.

So what exactly do I need to buy and where can I find the best deal. As you can see I am not a suby expert yet. Usually I would get this done but I want to learn the how to install my aftermarket parts. Can you list what I need. You guys are awsome and I appreciate the help!!!

I am an off topic, on topic question. My exhaust, BORLA 2.5" catback, on my04 WRX, keeps slipping to the left exhaust hanger at the muffler. Should I re-adjust the bolts at the cat and mid-pipe? Can I adjust it some how so the muffler won't fall off the hangers? It always pulls to the same side, slipping out of the left hanger, last one by muffler. ty.

Some places sell the mechanical exhaust fix for like $30-$50, but most will say its a waste of money. If you read that thread that mbiker posted, all of your answers regarding CELs are in there.

nyngbld - You might want to get Kartboy long hangers. to give it some slack if it's slipping out of the hanger.

No, I dont know if you got the borla brand new or not but it came with about 4 little rings that fit on the exhaust hangers so they wont slide just like its happening with your exhaust. If you dont have them go to Home Depot and get some plumbing pipe clamps small enough for the hangers, about 1/2". I also have my Borla and I love it catless. I might put a resonator in though just to remove the raspiness.

I got the kit brand new, no rings to fit on hangers. I will try the ones from Home Depot, but won't that cause an issue? If my exhaust is pulling one way and I put tension to hold it in place, will that cause something to come loose more so than normal? Just curious. Thanks.

CEL depends on what exhaust you are purchasing. Some have problems, some don't, & some set and clear the CEL periodically (like mine did). We really need to know what exhaust you purchased so you can get input from people that actually have it... but regardless of which, there is a fix for the CEL (if your unfortunate enough). I say just put it on and see what happens. drive it around town for a couple hours and also take it on the highway for a couple hours. You can pull the CEL in either of these scenarios. Mine didn't go off until I took a trip out of state and after a few hours of highway driving with cruise control on. Around town was fine...

Thanks for the info. I didnt get a chance to install it because of rain. I will install it next weekend and drive it on the highways asap. Also I bought the ebay generic ssautochrome headers, upipe, down, mid, & muffler set. Right now I am just installing TBE section of it. Hopefully I won't have any problems......
