Angry Just venting .... Is it me or Officers have nothing better to do?

Just venting here, but I was coming home from a buddy's place on 16th Ave. and yes my windows are tinted, my GT is Black Granite Pearl... so yeah it's dark... it's around 9:30pm, and there's still light outside.... I got pulled over, the officer asked me for my licence and registration, and I was totally ok with it. It took a freaking 20mins to write up a ticket for tinted windows and also a licence plate protector?? Man, seriously, I shouldn't go out @ month's end... those cops are like "vultures" when it comes to meeting their quotas.

To top it all off, there was a guy driving a Hemi 'Cuda with pitch black tinted windows beside me... didn't pull him over.. just me!

Off topic - I'm just wondering, my eyes are highly sensitive to bright light, hence my front (passanger and drivers) side windows
are tinted the lightest tint you can get. Can I use an optomatrists' prescription and use that as a defence statement in court?

Also, my licence plate cover I use to keep dirt etc away... it's slightly charcoal. I'm just wondering could I ask for the Officer that pulled me over's eye health record, b/c I had my lights fully operational, and you can clearly see my licence plate. I think he may have astigmatism, which alters the way light enters his eye, hence "not seeing" my plate.

Go to court!!!
The plate thing will be hard to win aleast in Ont. you can not have anything infront of plate, even clear????
Now the tint you can fight becauce that is sujective and maybe cop will not show.
If the courts are packed like here at least you'll make them work for it

Its my understanding that it is illegal under all circumstances to have tint on your front door windows in Alberta. I have a friend with 5% on his Del Sol and he keeps getting tickets. I don't think there is much you can do about it. But, if you have any luck with the optometrist thing, let me know because I would like to be able to have my tint legally.

i heard this from a friend so it might not work. if your tint is light enough to read a news paper through it than take a picture of the window with a newspaper behind it or something and go to court about it. its a close call but depends on the judge. about the licence protector thing. they are illegal. a friend of mine got busted with one of these covers and no use fighting the cover because its illegal to put anything over your plate. good luck about the tint man.

I have a UV allergy & have a note from my doctor stating such. It is legal for ME to have a tint b/c of this. Although it must be of minimum value & marked w/ an indicator that it is a UV blocking film. (It's bloody hard to get that sticker from the tint film manufacturer. They need the doctors note as well.)

It is ILLEGAL in AB to have any sort of tinting on the front 3 windows (incl 1/4 windows). Technically this also includes windshield banners.

You will not win arguing the light sensitivity issue even w/ a note from your optometrist b/c you should be wearing sunglasses while driving w/ your condition.

My brother found this out when he went to court, twice. The idiot.

damianq - It was 9:30pm at night, I don't think I'd be wearing sunglass driving then. However, whenever I drive or even am outside during the daylight hours, I always wear sunglasses.

You may have the following tint applied to your windows in Alberta:

Rear Window - any*
Rear Passenger Windows - any*
Front Door Windows - NONE
Windshield - 15CM from the top of the windshield

* - requires two side mirrors

I've gotten a 1 window tint ticket so far..and that was by an RCMP on the way back to Edmonton from Calbary on a weekday. The cop was from Ponoka! I haven't had any troubles in the city as of yet, but u never know. I see soo many cars with LIMO tint on their front windows, and i just hope that they have gotten tickets too.

I have 35% tint on my front windows and a banner, but the banner doesn't go past the windowshade when it is down.

I think it's just luck.....and u got to deal w/ it when u get it. My ticket was only 28 dolla. So i wasn't worried.

I'm running 10-15% tint on the front windows and limo on all the others, I've been running so long w/o any cops pulling me over! (1st ticket for tint in 2 years)

I'm sorry Jack, I didn't read your post clearly enough. Just chalk it up to they have nothing better to do.

Keenan, are you sure about the windshied banner? That's why my bro got pulled over in the first place. It's only after my brother put his window down did the officer notice the 87% tint on his side glass. His banner was only 3" even across the top in black like his car.

I was pretty sure that the 15cm banner only applied to trucks with no interior rear view mirror/view (ie. cube vans). I could of course be wrong. Very likely.
