Default Anyone used UPS Worldwide Express Plus shipping from US before?

Hi all,

According to the UPS site, the Worldwide Express Plus rate is all-inclusive. That is brokerage fees, custom duty and taxes are all included in the shipping cost.

Has anyone shipped using the Express Plus and can vouch that we don't have any other fees to pay upon receiving our goods? (i.e. not getting slapped with GST/PST, etc)

sorry, you have to pay GST, you can never get out of that.

I think that there is a $5 processing fee for the GST. But that is it.

Depending on who you purchase your stuff from.... if you can get them to send it as a warranty repair or as a gift you dont have to pay jack all. No tax no brokerage fees!!

That is why I am curious if the "all-inclusive rate" (as stated on the UPS website) actually includes GST, PST and duties. That would sort of explain the "6X more" rate?

Hi Benyl,

Do you know if the GST was included in the Worldwide Express shipping rate?
Or do you have to pay after the fact?

It is all inclusive but I think Duty and GST would need to be paid. Brokerage is the only thing included that I'm aware of.

GST is unavoidalbe, unelss FedEx forgets to bill you for it (it happens). UPS's brokerage rate is on a scale so if the vendor will declare it as a sample or a gift you can avoid fees. However, the vendor has to declare $0 value, which means if something happens you're hooped with respect to insurance.

Thanks for the info.

So looks like I will be billed separately for the Canadian taxes and duty?
UPS "all-inclusive" rate then really covers only the brokerage fees?

Please note that I am not trying to avoid paying GST, PST and duty. I am just wondering if the Worldwide Express "all-inclusive" rate includes "all-shipping costs" (i.e. brokerage fees, all taxes and duties)

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

The 'GIFT' thing, only works on items valued at $60 or less. If it's more than $60, you will have to pay duty and taxes on full value minus $60.

On another thing... Does UPS charge the duties and brokerage when they deliver, or will they send me a bill afterwards? I got stuff delivered and there was supposed to be some brokerage fees and GST, but the driver just left the package at my door step.

Since you're in Ottawa, might I suggest you get the item shipped to the UPS Store in Ogdensburg, pick it up there and save the UPS broker rapage?

The GST that is included is the GST of the UPS service, not the GST of the goods your bringing in. That is Extra and not the responsibility of the shipper, although they might collect it for you.

I just had some USED wheels shipped Fedex from a member in US. Just FYI here is the breakdown. I can't believe UPS will be any cheaper:

Duty on value of goods: 7%... maybe 6%... maybe 0% (depends on classification and country of origin - the man stuck it to me b/c they were JDM I think)
GST on value including duty
PST on value including duty
Brokerage - variable scale - I have the Fedex rates if you are interested - $25.50 CAD for $100-200 declared value - $53 CAD for $1000-1250
GST on the brokerage (no PST though)
Disbursement fee - you pay Fedex for paying the duty/tax up front and billing you for it
GST on the disbursement fee (no PST though)

That's ALL in addition to the actual shipping charge of course.

IIRC if you ship USPS there is a $5 inclusive brokerage/disbursement fee - but you will have to pay duty/gst/pst when you receive the goods. Sometimes with small packages you get lucky and they go through w/o customs.

HTH.
