I think you will need to send you ecu file to Tari. I do not see your coolant temp.

when you first start the Tari software it should pop up a window saying that your ecu isn't in the database and if you want to send the info to him. i fyou select yes, it would create a txt file that you email him with a pic of the ecu.

So I send him the ecuassist.txt file and a picture of my ECU? That shouldn't be a problem.

Hey guys, got a chance to try out this prog yesterday on a friend's car with his AP cable and while the program is nice for what it does it is missing a key item that's very important. How about the ability to read the IAM on the ecus. Without that it's pretty much useless when it comes to seeing where you are with timing maps. Everything else looks good though. It just badly needs this component on the next release ASAP.

Even the current Subaru Select Monitor doesn't report that.

Well, DeltaDash does it all day long and so does the in dash display they have, so it's obviously cannot be that hard to read the info off the ecu. Besides, the Subaru Select Monitor is a tool used to diagnose problems... knowing what your IAM is at doesn't exactly need to be known especially when working with OEM flashes which should be stable for Premium fuels. (Basically, a Subaru tech doesn't need to know the IAM.) In the aftermarket field though, it's an invaluable piece of the overall info one needs to determine efficient/stable tuning. After all, why tune your timing to the edge when your IAM is at 8 if you know the ecu will try from time to time to advance it higher to see if it will det or not. You're just opening up the door for minor det which is not nessacery if an ecu is tuned properly. So, if we could check the IAM and you see it sitting on 16 the majority of the time or all the time, then you're pretty much assured that you've got a tune that's not det prone. So, with that said, you can see how invaluable this one value is.

I guess my point is that harranguing about a so-called deficiency of a free tool which reports the same info as the the $x,xxx factory tool is counterproductive.

sorry for the delay...took a long weekend...

Quote:
Calvin, the DeltaDash I'm running supports logging of 20ms/sample on the fastest selection. Believe that is per data item selected. I'm getting basically the same data rate with DL1 that I see with DeltaDash.
it says so but i've yet to see an actual capture rate of 20ms, even with 1 parameter selected.

Quote:
So I bought I cable and tried it, and just found out the program didn't work for anything below MY99 Is there any way around this?
i have some protocol information for the 97/98 ecu but i havent got round to writing anything for it yet, so i dont know how valid it is.

Quote:
for gasoline:
lambda * 14.7 = AFR
thats the calculation formula i had and the values i got werent matching. i'll take another look...

Quote:
Thats interesting. I've not observed any fragmentation. My code has no logic to deal with that. Longest I've run it is about 30-40 minutes in one session.
its not the ecu, rather maybe my implemenation of the comms. maybe the MS comm OCX in VB6, yours is a .NET app. v2 is all C++ and much more intelligent so there wont be this problem in that version.

Quote:
How about the ability to read the IAM on the ecus.
tell me the address in the ecu and you can have it in 5mins...
Quote:
DeltaDash does it all day long
mail me and we'll get the address
Quote:
so does the in dash display they have
dash display is made by PSI3, it also reads the IAM on 99/00 vehicles. i dont have access to a 04 USDM STi, so i cant get this ecu address, i'm relying on you guys here...

there seems to be some BIG confusion as to what the ecuassist is for. it is only there so that i could build up a database of what ecu's were out there and what parameters they supported. it is also there so that i can code for a nice ascii string and tell you in english what your ecu type is. few problems with the ecuassist stuff:
1) a few of you are running 1 type of ecu with a certain ecu cover and id but completely different firmware software, which means they will never match.
2) its a rather annoying little message box each time you use the app.

I've removed the ecuassist stuff from v1.0.40 - please note that this WILL NOT affect the functionality of the application

On startup the ecu responds with a bit mapping of what parameters are supported. this is done and the data item list is generated regardless of whether it understands your ecu id or not.

v1.0.40 will be available in the next few days...
Calvin.

I will be taking of photo of the my 2004 USDM STi computer tonight. Sorry but I can't offer it up for examination as I use my car often. Is there anyway I can retrieve the data you need from a 04 STi? I will post the picture and ECUassist file tonight.

Thanks,
Justin

PS - I pluged this in to a Saab 9-2X (saabaru) this weekend and it worked. I can get a picture of his ECU and txt file as well.

Saab 9-2x ecus are identical to the Subaru ones. Or rather I should say... they are the Subaru ones used in the WRX wagons.

It is a neat program. However my MAP pressure seems to be off. This should be the same reading as the AP or boost gauge, right?

The logger values shown are absolute not guage pressure. Subtract normal atmospheric pressure (~14.7 psi ) get a value that the AP or dash guage would show.

Use the "relative pressure" to monitor boost levels.

Default Feature Suggestion

I have a humble feature suggestion that might make things easier for you.

Until all the ecu's can be auto-detected, could you add a feature to specifiy your own memory addresses like in the mmCD program for DSM's?

Even if it's just a text file that it reads in at startup. Just a simple format:

[ADDRESS] [DESCRIPTION] [D/A] [EQUATION]

Might help in the long run because we could experiment and find what works on our own.

Heck, you could put the whole table you currently have out there.

you can still use your wasted $15 cable for other things like an LM-1/LC-1/XD-1.

what cable are you trying to use, the Cobb AP cable?
are you using the correct com port?
can you connect to any serial device through that com port?
are you computer literate?

Just a suggestion Justin, but why not email him this info instead of posting on the web for the entire world to see? Just a thought, but privacy is sometimes the best policy... I would delete your post and send this info directly to him via email. Just a thought.
