Apex'i Turbo Timer installed, but need a little help.
Hello.
Some friends of mine chipped in for a Apex'i TT as a graduation present to me, and even had someone hook me up for a free install. Unfortunately, the installer was not able to interface the stock security module, as he explained to me. Apparently the alarm that I bought at the dealership is an add-on to the stock keyless entry system, that is, it uses the stock remote and security module to activate an aftermarket alarm brain. He tried to "interface" it but couldn't get the stock security module to arm while the car was on. So I just told him to take whatever he did off. Well, I believe i'm capable of installing everything myself, but I was just being lazy and I didn't want to turn down the offer of having it installed as a grad present. I feel bad now, because although it does work, I am a little annoyed that he could have installed it better. I noticed that when the timer is on, and I turn the ignition off, my abs light turns on for nearly a second and my battery light for a split second, just a flash. I have HID's, and *if* I leave them on while turning off the ignition, they flash off and on again, (F*%^. the first time I did that I was pretty pissed.) My question is, is this normal behavior? A friend of mine with an 05` STi installed his own Greddy turbo timer, and his doesn't flinch at all. When he turns off the ignition with the timer activated, the car continues to idle and all electronics work just as if the key was never taken out. His uses an aftermarket alarm transmitter, but still has the stock keyless entry module in there. I'd like to re-do the install or at least fix what is causing the semi-turn off when I turn the ignition off. It really bothers me; I feel that something must be incorrect. Lastly, is it possible to wire it up to arm with the stock security module, as in my scenario? I have read a few threads on this and the most I could find dealt with cutting a wire on the security module under the dash. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ugh, this is why I try to do everything myself. So I know how everything works and is hooked up. Thanks in advance.

After having done more searching and reading, I found that although the keyless entry system controls the aftermarket alarm, the technique to bypass the ignition sense is pretty much the same. I found many threads (my mistake, I did not fully understand if my scenario was the same or not) on bypassing the keyless entry module, by disconnecting (cutting) the dark green wire with a black stripe. This allowed me to lock the car's doors, which is about half way complete to where I want to be. I think my dealer-installed Audiovox Prestige alarm uses the door locks as a trigger to arm the alarm, as when I lock the car with the switch while the engine is not running, it would arm.
Anyway, now that I got the keyless entry module to arm, I was able to find the ignition sense for the aftermarket alarm brain. I tried cutting it, and the alarm is able to arm when the car is running and the timer is counting down. The only problem with this, is that the alarm does not ever see that the car is started or turned on, so the alarm LED blinks all the time, even with the ignition running. While testing the setup I set the alarm off, which caused the LED to blink to a particular sequence to let me know which zone was set off. So pretty much, now I have to deal with the alarm chirping a few times to let me know that the alarm went off, although it didn't. The chirping was to let me know that the alarm went off before I cut the ignition wire, and since the wire is cut, it does not reset and it does it every time. I found a very helpful post by netZ for a revised 1-relay setup to bypass the ignition sense on most DEI aftermarket alarms; although my alarm is a pos Prestige, the logic is still pretty much the same. I'll have to see if I can source a 30/40 amp 5-pin bosch-style relay sometime and continue this project. Although I still don't know why my car twitches off for a split second when transitioning from taking the key out to the turbo timer counting down, but I have a sense that it is normal and that the turbo timer takes a split second to sense the car is being turned off before it takes over. Maybe it's the brand. "updated single relay for turbo timer and aftermarket alarm!!!" http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=371035 |
