I did upgrade my clutch line to steel braided so that could have something to do with the feel also. The flywheel didn't throw any codes but it did misfire and stall today while casually driving down a residential street. After a rough re start and some bucking as I was getting going I was surprised to see absolutely no code at all? I have an appt to get a tune on Monday so hopefully it was just a learning process for the car and won't happen again. It drove fine after that. I know you were looking for a STi but this is what I got. I know mine hits boost and spools even faster now than it did before, launch is significantly "touchier" but by no means have to rev to 1000s of rpms just to get it going, and you'll get put back in the seat noticeably further ha-ha. One last thing is it does feel like the top speed may have gotten decreased but I won't try that till after the tune. I can't comment on top end because I haven't taken it over 3500 yet. Hope this helps a little. |

This post saved me a bit of money. Maybe I won't re-up for a lighter flywheel.

I read through the whole thread, but still didn't get a answer for my question, other than yes or no.
I have Exedy Stage 2 clutch kit with 3 puck clutch. Since the clutch is pain in the ass to drive, I would like to change it out for ACT HDMM clutch disk. Im putting down 300 ft lb at the moment, but I want it to be good for 380 with futher upgrades. Or would the change be pointless, because ACT HDMM or similar disk will chatter as much as my Exedy at the moment? Good thread btw ![]() |

Question: When replacing the flywheel, is it a good precaution to replace all 8 flywheel bolts too, along with pressure plate cover bolts?
Stock flywheel, and stage 1 Exedy race clutch kit. |

The software wont let me type no all by itself, so no. If you like to put the lotion in the basket, you can replace all the hardware and we won't know or care. Some people have OCD on hardware....I won't make fun of you for it....much.

Hey guys, so here's what happened .. A 'friend' of mine, asked to drive my car. He's normally pretty co, so I let him. I do NOT launch my car, keep in mind. He revved it up to around 5500 RPM, and just dumps the clutch. It was in gravel. My car is a stage 3 Wrx. Stock clutch, stock tranny. About 85k on the original clutch. My clutch has been grabbing extra high lately, but doesn't slip at all. And because it's a hydraulic clutch, I can't adjust it. I was looking to replace my clutch this week. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a stage 3 clutch, just to avoid clutch problems as much as possible in the future. Car makes around 282 horse now. I don't plan on launching, or EVER dumping the clutch. Just need something more durable for a daily driven clutch. Think it's a bad idea to go straight to stage 3? And should I do the pressure plate too? Any help would be awesome. Like I said, clutch is grabbing extra high lately.

I thought the rule of thumb was "stock tranny, stock clutch". Isn't that to prevent breaking the tranny?

Who told you a hydraulic clutch is not adjustable? The adjustment is in the pedal...the pedal stop/switch can be moved

There's also the thread portion of the rod to the master cylinder.

You probably have air in the line. Jack up the car and turn the wheels lock to lock to get the air out.

Hmmmm, I didn't say anything before but after i changed my clutch and added a lightened flywheel my pump started whining. I even changed my pump but could never get it to stop. I assumed it was just getting air in somewhere else, I read that the factory clamps on these cars let air in.

Is shudder nessesarily a 'bad' thing, meaning that the clutch needs to be replaced? Or can shudder be a normal discomfort? Or do I just need to rev it higher when getting off from 1st. I'm on An Exedy Stage 1 Organic and an ACT lightweight flywheel

Everyone says replace or resurface the fly when changing the clutch. I understand its a good rule of thumb but I've got about 8k on my clutch and my pressure plate defected. Can't find the plate itself so I bought a whole new clutch kit.
Should I still resurface or replace? |
