sorry for posting this but i just need some quick input
SITUATION: im buying a white wrx on august 11 im looking at a good deal, but i want to add 2 more options to the car he wont put the options onto the car until i totally confirm that will purchase the car he already has my $200 deposit so the car is under my name, but i still can pull out PROBLEM: the car has 32 miles on it ..................... i think this is pretty high, is it? what do you think, what should i do? should i not purchase the car because of the 32 miles on it the guy, who sounds very sincere, tells me that the car came from the factory with 32 miles. he explained that some cars come with 10, some with 20, some with 30, some with even 50. is this true? he told me the plastics are still over the car, etc. my thing is I DONT WANT to buy a car that has been test driven on. i am being very anal about my new car. but is the 32 miles nothing to worry about? please help, i told the dude i would call him back in a couple of hours for a final confimation - once he gets the confirmation, he'll start adding the options that i want. SHOULD I DITCH THE DEAL OR NOT? Thank you. sorry for posting this, i kno it has nothing to do with anything but u know...in these situations ![]()

Buy it. Mine had 67 on the odo when I got it new.
They drive them at the factory, they drive them at the docks, they drive them at the dealer. You will never get a new car with 0 mile's on it. ![]() |

A certain percentage of cars are driven by QC technicans as a part of the completed assembly process. 32 miles doesn't sound like alot.
As far as the options go... they may be easily dealer installed ones. Perhaps they have had a number of people cancel their orders and had to give away the installed options to other buyers. |

That's nothing. Don't give it a second thought. More important to closely inspect the car and check that everything works properly before you sign on the dotted line. Oh yes, ask the dealer to throw in a Subaru hat!

the extra options he's going to install when i give him my confirmation of the purchase are SPOILER and SECURITY SYSTEM
those could be installed really fast right? he said it will take 2-3 days to put them on - he promised that. anyone ever get lied to about factory options being installed on time but were really late? ahh 20 views but 3 replies, come on guys add some input. at least tell me how many miles were on your new car when you bought it. thanks ![]() |

32 is actually on the lower spectrum of normal for a new car...
i wouldnt bail on the deal... also, 2-3 days sounds like a pretty conservitive estimate for the installation of a wing and security system. if the dealership has it's **** right, they will have a wing on stock (or at least located in the area) and be able to paint the wing one day, while the car is getting the security system installed, next day installed wing, then you get to pick it up that day or the next. caino |

hehe i confirmed it
WHITE WRX IS MINES AUGUST 11st. also, i just took my first stick shift lesson today. ahhh its pretty easy except 1st gear i get doofy legged sometimes. i must perfect it... in my lesson, whenever i had to slow down, the driver and me put it to neutral and gently braked... is that the correct way to slow down? some people mentioning putting it into 4,3,2,1, if you're in 5th and want to slow down instead, we did 5 ---> Neutral then brake thats teh correct way right? |

I heard that unless he's got a wing in stock, there is a 2 or more month wait on them if they are not PORT installed.
Tats. |

Sammy - Congrat on getting a WRX. As far as transmission/braking, you should just slow down in gear, until it gets down to like 1000-1500 rpm, or you feel the engine is bogging. Then push in the clutch. You shouldn't coast down the road in netral. When the car is stopped, then put it in neutral and let out the clutch. Or if you're ready to go, put it in 1st gear.
If you're just slowing down, and not stopping, just slow with your brakes. When you get to your desired speed, then shift to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th or whatever gear is appropriate for your speed. Again, you shouldn't be in neutral unless the car is stopped. -Ray |

congrats on the rex!
I do believe that cruising in neutral in some states is illegal...I think Alaska is one of those...anyone confirm that? |

Well, it's basically an old school thing, for 2 reasons.
1. Leaving it in gear means you're also using engine braking. Save your brakes a tiny bit. 2. If you need to speed up for whatever reason, you don't need to hunt for a gear. Just step on it, and you will get some acceleration. I'd admit that for our modern cars, neither is important. If you've always cruised in neutral, I wouldn't ask you to change. But for a new manual driver, call me old fashion, but I'll point out the best way to do it. -Ray |

My 02RS had 80 miles on it. Of course they had to drive it from one dealership to the one I was buying it from. So that's where the extra miles came from.
32 miles is nothing. Get it and have fun. |

Keep it in gear until 1000 or so and then push the clutch in and move to neutral. Don't put it into first until the car is stopped or you will put unneeded stress on the synchro's. |

anything more then 20 means that they let people test drove it around. It shouldn't be too much of a problem, after all, it is only 20 miles. Unless the beat the heck out of it..
