Question Help me buy my birthday present

Decision: I ordered a Cusco 22mm rear swaybar, Whiteline rear endlinks and a Kartboy shifter and bushing kit. Should be pretty good bang for my $.

Hey Guys,

I think I'm going to get gauges (boost, EGT, Oil Temp) for my b-day. The problem is that I was all ready to order suspension, but it just isn't in the budget.

Is Autometer OK? If so what level? What's the best A-pillar 3-gauge pod? etc?

Thanks.

-J

FWIW

I have a little toy from TurboXS that I picked up while in Australia you may want to look at and wait for its release. I'm at SOC for lunch and again around 4 pm.

IMHO
Gauges required in order for the track.

Knock detection
EGT-high quality, fast reading
Oil temp
Water temp

For tuning with only a few mods
Boost
EGT
A/F

Suspension is probability your cheapest. Lots of improvement with just these 3 items. No roads to use it on thou in Calgary unless at Race City.
Whiteline 22mm front swaybar
Whiteline 24mm adjustable rear

I'll be at SOC around 1:00~1:15. If you're still around I wouldn't mind seeing your "gadget".

I'd like to do pinks and hats before I do sway bars.

I'd get this instead of guages. It is clean, fits in stock location, has dozens of possible inputs, is WAY cheaper than buying and installing guages, uses ECU info and can even display when your engine pulls a code.
If you want to see one in an STi give me your e-mail address and I will send you a picture.

Cool, but at 425 pounds I don't think its cheaper that Autometer gauges. Maybe cheaper that a DEFI D-link set-up (maybe).

Hey Jitenshakun, my brother-in-law has that in his WRX. Really nice, his is black. He had gauges before and dumped them for this instead... really clean. He installed it in instead of his clock in his '03. Nice. I'll ask him where he got it and how much he paid for it, if you want. There must be a better price than 425 pounds somewhere..

That'd be cool. I'm open to options, as long as they aren't crazy expensive.

J:
Turns out the b-i-l does not have the Ecutek, but a model made by a company named Psi3, also based in the UK. Check it out, seems to be a bit cheaper, and you'll also see it was an easy mistake to make..

http://www.psi3.co.uk/

Hope that helps.

We sell the delta in dash display for $1025. Yes it is expensive and my comparison was referring to getting something that had similar readings and accuracy which you will not be able to find. You will also not be able to find all the features that this display unit has. You can get mechanical guages for cheap but you are getting piss-poor readings. If you want accuracy and MANY inputs this is the way to go.

Hmm. I had thought that mechanical were the way to go. Are electonic gauges better?

I have the Ecutek dash display, I love it. Lachute Subaru has them so does Rocket Rally(found out after I bought mine). Lachute is a bit cheaper, but it took over a month to get. Julien is the guy you want to talk to there. Taxes with shipping included was $975 ish not too bad considering what it does

The replay, peak hold, and warning setpoints function of the Defi's are worth it.

I have autometer A/F z-series, Boost and Oil press in an a-pillar setup. I am happy with them. They were all I could afford, but would probably go Defi if I had more $.

For my needs autometer is fine, but I am not a tuner. I am told the quality/accuracy isn't as good as others like Defi. When I compare my boost readings to my Accessport the Autometer consistently reads ~0.5 psi less, but it is zeroed at -0.5 psi (I'm not sure why. higher altitude => lower press than it was calibrated at?). Also, the A/F doesn't give a digital number, it has red, yellow and green leds to indicate lean, stoich and rich. It's a cool look, but many tuners seem to frown on it!

tcamm33s Ecutek dash display is awesome, too!! Very clean looking...and probably the best way to go....

...but I like look of gauges.

Just buy DeltaDash and one of those shmancy in car LCDs with an in car computer. If you get bored looking at your gauges, you can always watch Blade Runner while the cruise is on...
