Default HID foglights

has anyone put HIDs for their fog lights yet? I'm thinking about doing this, I already have HID headlights, but is this overkill?

over kill and dangerous if the lenses were not originally designed for HIDs.

Put Yellowstars or Narva Golds in them instead

What he said. The white/blue light from HIDs is actually detrimental in poor weather/low visibility conditions, for best results you want yellow light.
Also most HID kits for H3 have bulbs that are too long to fit in the foglight housings due to the limited clearance, although it has been done.

You could go yellow HID like this guy
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=760744

HIDs in your fog lights will impair your distance vision as they provide too much foreground lighting, but with yellow fogs this won't be as much of an issue as long as you only use them during inclement whether or fog (which are the only times you should use fog lights anway).

Back from the deadly.

I did this on my 02 WRX, with a set of 10000k HID's by Xetronic.

Took some pics..

Just HID's

HIDs and Lowbeams

I'm going to put some Silverstars in the regular lights, so I don't have to give up my brights...

Two sets of HID's is a lot of heat and a lot of power...keep that in mind too.

Too much light too low; HID foglights are like a nuclear hand grenade; you can't throw it far enough to avoid getting caught up in the explosion.

I like them. I could have spent the money on something else ricey, i'm sure..

but I knew I wasn't going to get much in the way of true engine performance with only the money I spent on these..

i dont think it will be too much of a problem, the lights hit the road mainly they're not headlights so they will not really bother on coming traffic as headlights would or JDMs. I know many people who have done this on their cars not only scoobys, i say do it!

There is plenty of space in there to mount your ballasts and to keep everything organized.

also maybe paint the bottom part of the reflectors or make a glare sheild so there isnt as much upward glare. also maybe use not quite such a blue bulb, i would say stay under 5000k and you will still be able to see in the winter snow storms

However, if you could just turn them about 60-90 degrees to the side, HID foglamps would be awesome for some short range cornering lamps.

but would you leave them on all the time? that would be pretty annoying. and you wouldnt want to connect them to come on with the blinkers really because of the start up time.

Nah, theyd come on only with the rest of my lighting array i have for road rallies. I have 4 driving lamps for seeing ahead of me, 2 foglamps for seeing close up with a fairly wide spread, and 2 more foglamps pointed 45 degrees to the side for cornering which work okay but really could be better. 1 switch, 8 lamps.

it's worth mentioning that i've driven almost 3000 miles this month, since I installed them, and not a single person high beaming me over them. i'm going to angle them up a bit, and see what i can get away with..

Me too. One night I tried to drive home from across the valley with my FF1000s with Yellow stars. 20 miles went incident free. 2 miles from my house, I passed a semi-truck who then turned on his high beams when I got in front of him. I got back behind him, clicked off the FF1000s, and turned on the HIDs instead!
